We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Site Manager to lead the successful delivery of our flagship 20,000-capacity indoor arena in Bristol.

Once home to every UK-built Concorde, the Brabazon Hangars are being repurposed into a brand-new venue for Bristol and are set to be the South West's top destination for music, comedy, sports and entertainment.

In this role, you'll oversee and deliver all site management activities for the arena project, monitoring progress, reviewing performance and contributing to improved plans, processes and procedures. 

You'll play a key part in upholding and embedding YTL Construction UK's ethos of “Building the Right Thing,” helping to shape systems, behaviours and outcomes that reflect our commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation.

What you'll do

You'll be supporting the Site Management team and external partners, ensuring effective teamwork and maintaining the highest Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

You'll work closely with Project Management, Design, Programming and Commercial teams to achieve shared project objectives. This includes contributing to buildability, offering feedback and communicating delivery strategies to meet all stakeholder expectations.

You'll also provide mentoring and guidance to others, helping drive successful project delivery across the team.

Other duties include:

  • supporting short and long-term planning by monitoring programmes, setting build milestones and overseeing daily site activities and long-term planning by monitoring programmes, setting build milestones and overseeing daily site activities
  • driving a strong health and safety culture, maintaining robust QA procedures, keeping accurate records and ensuring work complies with technical designs and manufacturers' requirements
  • supervising construction works, closing out design gaps with Design and Package Managers, resolving any issues quickly to minimise disruption
  • building effective relationships with suppliers and the wider supply chain through regular communication, meetings and workshops
  • managing risks, logistics planning, temporary utilities, site support resources (eg, forklifts and cranes) and all materials, including call-offs, protection and tracking
  • producing required reports, weekly returns and project documentation while supporting site meetings and ensuring high standards of tidiness and presentation every day.

What you'll need

You'll need solid, hands-on experience in the construction industry, with a strong track record of delivering commercial projects.

Your communication and negotiation skills will enable you to influence key decisions and drive successful outcomes on major proposals and project work.

You'll also have: 

  • a strong technical understanding of the design and construction process for commercial developments, including relevant standards, codes and legislation
  • SMSTS and CSCS accreditations, with willingness to train for roles such as Appointed Person, Temporary Works Coordinator, Fire Marshal and other required competencies
  • the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, with strong influencing and persuasion skills
  • familiarity with document management systems (eg, 4Projects) and site control tools such as Oculo and Field View
  • experience using project controls and planning tools to manage deliverables, along with a good working knowledge of construction contracts and professional appointments
  • strong self-management skills, prioritising workloads and working with high-level delegation
  • clear and adaptable communication skills across presentations, reports and meetings
  • the ability to manage individuals and teams to achieve project goals.
