Apprentice Project Engineer - Degree Level

The Apprentice Civil Engineer will support the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and eventual decommissioning of civil engineering infrastructure across the Turnbull portfolio at Hinkley Point C. The role develops advanced engineering knowledge and practical capability aligned to the Civil Engineer Level 6 apprenticeship standard, including the ability to source, interpret and analyse technical data, propose engineering solutions, and contribute to safe, sustainable and compliant delivery of civil engineering works

What you'll do

• Assist in planning, designing and delivering civil engineering solutions, including reviewing data, interpreting drawings, and supporting technical decision‑making.
• Support site inspections, surveys and progress reporting, ensuring compliance with HPC governance, Turnbull procedures, and nuclear site safety requirements.
• Use engineering software tools (e.g., CAD, Revit, BIM platforms) to prepare and communicate technical information.
• Contribute to safe systems of work, applying risk assessment, quality management and environmental sustainability principles.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, project managers, planners, contractors and NNB representatives.
• Support continuous improvement, evaluating engineering performance and identifying opportunities to enhance safety, sustainability and efficiency.
• Participate in apprenticeship learning requirements, including academic study, portfolio development, progress reviews and end‑point assessment preparation.

As an Civil Engineer apprentice you will learn –

• Advanced engineering knowledge underpinned by scientific and mathematical principles.
• Understanding of civil engineering systems across utilities, infrastructure, water management, energy and built environment.
• Ability to analyse data, evaluate information, specify materials and propose engineering solutions.
• Knowledge of sustainability, carbon reduction, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) alignment and lifecycle asset management.
• Familiarity with statutory and regulatory frameworks including CDM, environmental legislation and nuclear governance.
• Proficiency in engineering software (CAD).
• Strong communication skills for technical reporting, presentations and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Awareness of Turnbull's lifecycle model and how civil engineering integrates with EM&I, water treatment, dewatering, slope monitoring, project delivery and environmental services.

• A levels - A,B,B with one of the Bs being maths (min) and one being science (min).
• BTEC (science related) with Distinction, Distinction and Merit
• T Levels – Distinction
