We're looking for an Asset Reliability Engineer to play a key role in strengthening and maintaining Wessex Water's asset maintenance and reliability capability.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on ensuring that maintenance strategies, asset data and processes are consistent, reliable, and aligned with business needs. You will be supported by, and responsible for managing, the Asset Reliability Administrator.

You'll contribute to improving how maintenance is planned and delivered, supporting better asset performance and enabling data-driven decisions across the organisation.

You will be working across Engineering, Operations, IT, and Asset Management teams, helping to ensure our systems and processes are optimised, standardised, and continuously improved.

You'll act as a key link between asset information, system functionality and operational delivery, helping to embed best practice and drive long-term performance improvements.

You'll also develop your expertise as a subject matter specialist, supporting the evolution of asset management systems, maintenance strategies and data governance across the business.

What you'll do

  • Translate asset management strategies (eg, RCM, FMECA) into practical, risk-based maintenance plans aligned with asset criticality and business needs.
  • Maintain and optimise asset maintenance schedules, including onboarding new assets and removing retired equipment.
  • Develop and enhance Asset Operation and Care Plans to support reliable asset performance.
  • Ensure maintenance instructions, templates, and plans are accurate, consistent, and up to date.
  • Help support the governance, optimisation, and continuous improvement of Work and Asset Management Systems, driving efficiencies in scheduling, usability and automation.
  • Improve asset data quality, integrity and consistency across systems, enabling better reporting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with IT, Engineering, Operations and Projects teams to deliver system enhancements and resolve issues.
  • Provide insights to support performance, reliability, and investment decisions.
  • Provide expert guidance to stakeholders and site teams to improve maintenance delivery and workload optimisation.
  • Help define and maintain system standards, data structures and governance processes.
  • Support testing, implementation, and ongoing improvement of system updates and new functionality.
  • Responsible for the line management of the Asset Reliability Administrator.

What you'll need

  • Experience working in asset management within infrastructure, utilities or a regulated industry.
  • Understanding of asset management principles and approaches (eg, ISO 55000, RCM, FMECA).
  • Experience working with asset management or maintenance systems and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with and interpret large data sets.
  • A good understanding of data structures, system logic, and data relationships.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint).
  • A relevant asset management qualification (or working towards one) would be desirable.
  • An engineering background (mechanical, electrical or structural).
  • Experience supporting or administering enterprise systems (eg, ERP/EAM platforms).
  • A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured, systems-thinking approach.
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver against competing demands.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and influence outcomes.
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively in a complex organisation.
  • A focus on delivering reliable, high-quality outcomes that improve asset performance and efficiency.
  • A full UK driving licence.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
