Business Continuity Coordinator Apprentice

As a Business Continuity Coordinator Apprentice, you will help Wessex Water prepare for, respond to and recover from disruption.

Working within our Emergency Planning team, you'll gain practical experience supporting business continuity, emergency planning and organisational resilience while studying towards a BSc in Resilience and Emergencies Professional Practice.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to start a career in resilience, emergency planning, risk management or business continuity. You'll work alongside experienced professionals, developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to help ensure we can continue providing essential services during incidents, emergencies and other disruptive events.

You'll be involved in real projects from the start, helping teams across the business understand their risks, develop plans, test their preparedness and improve their resilience.

What you'll do

During your apprenticeship, you will:

• support teams in identifying critical activities and assessing the impact of disruption
• help develop and maintain business continuity, emergency response and recovery plans
• assist with the design and delivery of exercises, workshops and training activities
• help investigate opportunities to improve resilience across the organisation
• support emergency incidents and business continuity events when required
• create guidance, communications and awareness materials
• contribute to resilience projects and organisational improvement initiatives
• work with colleagues across Wessex Water and external partners, including emergency services and local resilience organisations
• research emerging risks, good practice and industry developments
• support the development of processes, tools and approaches that help the business become more resilient

No two days are likely to be the same. One week you may be facilitating a workshop with operational teams, the next you could be helping design an emergency exercise, reviewing business continuity plans or developing awareness materials for colleagues across the business.

What you'll need

We're looking for someone who is curious, creative and enjoys solving problems.

This role would suit someone who likes understanding how organisations work and asking questions such as:

• What would happen if a key system failed?
• How could we maintain services during an emergency?
• How can we improve our ability to recover from disruption?

You will enjoy working with a variety of people, from operational teams through to senior managers and external partners. You'll be confident engaging with others, facilitating discussions and helping teams develop practical solutions.

Successful candidates are likely to be naturally inquisitive, well-organised and able to balance attention to detail with a broader strategic perspective.

You will need:

• be an effective communicator, able to build positive working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation
• enjoy working with others and facilitating discussions to achieve shared outcomes
• demonstrate confidence in presenting ideas and communicating information both verbally and in writing
• be organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• be naturally curious and enjoy exploring "what if?" scenarios and potential risks
• be comfortable analysing information and identifying practical solutions to problems
• have strong attention to detail while maintaining a broader view of organisational priorities
• be proactive and willing to take ownership of tasks and projects
• be competent in Microsoft 365 applications
• hold or be predicted to achieve 112 UCAS tariff points (equivalent to BBB/BBC at A-Level).

It is desirable that you have:

• an interest in resilience, emergency planning, business continuity, risk management or organisational improvement
• experience of working collaboratively in teams, school projects, clubs, volunteering or employment
• experience of presenting to groups, leading activities or organising events.

Apprenticeship Information

Apprentice standard title

Level 6 Resilience & Emergencies Professional.

Apprenticeship standard duration

36 months of learning followed by 3 months of end point assessment – total of 39 months. 

On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold (Level 6 Resilience & Emergencies Professional BSc).

Training provision

Training will be delivered by Better Futures Apprenticeships part of Coventry University including:

• Online training sessions 4 per semester
• Block week at Coventry 1 x semester

There are 3 semesters per year of the apprenticeship.
