The Head of Organisation Design is a senior strategic partner to the HR Director and Chief Transformation Officer. You'll be accountable for ensuring the organisation's structure, operating model and ways of working enable strong business performance and set our teams up to succeed. We want to be the best in everything we do, from water and property to construction, services, customer experience, and entertainment.

This role sets and leads a Group-wide organisation design (OD) strategy. You'll be translating our business ambitions into practical, evidence-based organisation designs that improve clarity, accountability, agility and long-term sustainability while actively considering the employee experience of how work is organised.

What you'll do

  • Set and lead a clear, Group-wide organisation design workforce strategy aligned to business and transformation priorities.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to the Executive Committee and senior leaders on organisation design, providing insight, challenge and practical direction.
  • Facilitate senior-level design sessions and decision-making forums that create clarity and accountability.
  • Establish and embed consistent OD principles, frameworks and governance across the Group.
  • Lead reviews of how the organisation is set up, how teams work day-to-day and whether structures support what people need to do.
  • Establish a listening culture to learn from all colleagues' knowledge and experience.
  • Define and track OD metrics and benefits realisation, including performance, role clarity, cost, productivity, duplication reduction and sustainability indicators.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing OD team and build OD skills and understanding across HR and the wider business.

What you'll need

  • Significant senior-level experience leading organisation design in large, complex organisations.
  • Deep expertise in operating models, spans and layers, job design and organisational governance.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link organisation design decisions to cost, performance and outcomes without losing sight of capability and people impact.
  • Credibility and confidence operating at an executive level, with strong facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic capability; pragmatic, resilient and comfortable working at pace and through ambiguity.
  • Professional qualification in HR, Organisation Design or related discipline (desirable).

Why this role matters: This role helps the organisation run more clearly and smoothly. People know what they're accountable for, decisions are easier to make, and there's less repeated work. It also puts structures in place that support manageable workloads and future growth, so teams can do their best work.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
