We are looking for a new DevOps Automation Engineer who specialises in Microsoft Fabric to join our growing team at YTL!

You will be the data-driven DevOps SME within the Software Development team, leading the creation of modern, enterprise-ready DevOps practices for Microsoft Fabric.

You'll shape governance, workspace modelling with Git, CI/CD patterns and development standards, while guiding teams through the realities and quirks of Fabric.

The role blends technical leadership, defining best practice approaches, driving their adoption and safeguarding the organisation from technical debt as we modernise our Azure-based data platforms.

You'll help elevate our DevOps maturity across new and existing data initiatives, including the evolution or retirement of legacy systems.

What you'll do

In this role within the software development team, you will be responsible for partnering closely with various teams to build smooth, reliable, and empowering DevOps practices across our Microsoft Fabric environment.

Day to day, you'll collaborate with DevOps specialists, the Database and Reporting team, and the wider Software Development group to deliver a cohesive, high-impact DevOps capability that enables teams across the business.

In this role, you will:

  • define, implement and maintain the novel CI/CD pipeline pattern for Fabric deployments, drawing on Microsoft/industry best practice and our existing standards
  • adhere to modern DevOps standards (eg, parameterised, reusable, minimise manual interventions) and gracefully handle schema evolution and breaking changes to the data model
  • contribute to the Fabric workspace/environment model and establish workspace sync with a mature branching strategy
  • use Workspace-as-Code and Bicep IaC where needed
  • adapt to Fabric's quirks and dependencies with required custom workarounds (eg, the use of Fabric REST API, Fabric CLI)
  • stay abreast of fast-paced product developments (including use of GenAI)
  • be responsible for monitoring and acting on Fabric usage, including Capacity management, capacity sharing and performance tuning
  • be responsible for implementing and maintaining the security of the platform (secret management, RBAC)
  • be involved in automation of data migrations/test data creation/obfuscation for non-Production environments
  • participate in deep technical architectural discussions, challenging effectively to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud
  • provide guidance with associated versioning and check-in controls
  • conduct mandatory peer reviews of own work, colleagues and third-party work, alongside creating pull requests
  • work with other teams to establish and maintain agreed processes, standards, patterns and practises applicable to our enterprise data solutions and associated automation pipelines, which primarily will be using Fabric
  • ensure that all development and delivery adhere to company security standards.

What you'll need

You will have experience in:

  • DevOps role, specifically related to creating Fabric deployment pipelines, Fabric Workspaces, Fabric REST APIs, Fabric CLIRDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server (including SSIS)
  • Azure as a cloud provider
  • either ADO or GitHub as a Software Versioning application
  • Axure DevOps (CI/CD, ALM), NPM, Bicep, Managed Identities\OAuth\Tokens
  • GitHub Flow as a branching strategy, along with GitVersioning
  • Approval Gates and Pull Request drive deployments
  • scripting languages (particularly Bash, PowerShell and Azure CLI)
  • data-related services such as FabricSQL, Synapse Analytics, Data Warehousing, Data Integration, Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure Data Factory
  • manual and automated testing and quality practices
  • Azure DevOps\Jira\Asana
  • Agile and SCRUM methodologies, and waterfall to a small degree.

The following experience would be beneficial, but is not essential:

  • security and testing applications, such as SonarQube, Katalon, Selenium, Appium or Checkmarx
  • configuring centralised logging and application monitoring using tools such as ELK, Nagios or Application Insights
  • load balancing and orchestration tools, such as API management
  • Active Directory, Certificate Services, DNS and DHCP
  • Microsoft certification or similar
  • excellent communication at all levels, both written and verbal, with great mindfulness
  • effective with time management and expected deliverables
  • the ability to defend strategic direction, and challenge others where needed.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions)
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions)
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers
  • One paid volunteering day each year

  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders
