We're looking for an enthusiastic and practical Rising Main Technician to join our growing Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) Optimisation Team.

In this specialist role, you'll help maintain, investigate, refurbish and optimise sewerage pumping stations and rising main assets across the wastewater network. You'll play a vital role in improving reliability, reducing energy use, preventing pollution and protecting the environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in pump performance, asset optimisation, condition monitoring and wastewater infrastructure, working on assets that provide an essential service to customers and communities.

No two days are the same. You could be carrying out pump testing at a pumping station, supporting a rising main cleaning programme, installing monitoring equipment or investigating network performance issues.

What You'll Do

As a Rising Main Technician, you'll:
  • Carry out pump performance testing and condition assessments at sewerage pumping stations.
  • Complete planned maintenance on rising main assets, including air valves, washouts, hatch boxes and discharge points.
  • Deliver planned and reactive rising main cleaning programmes using specialist techniques.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and operational issues affecting pumping stations and rising mains.
  • Support refurbishment and replacement works on pumping station equipment in both wet well and dry well environments.
  • Install, commission and maintain monitoring equipment for flow, pressure, level and power.
  • Gather and analyse asset performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Help improve pumping efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Produce asset condition reports and recommend practical engineering solutions.
  • Support capital investment projects, installations and operational improvement programmes.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve asset reliability and reduce pollution risk.
  • Manage personal tools, equipment, stock and critical spare parts.

What You'll Need

We're looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working outdoors and making a real impact on essential infrastructure.
You'll ideally have:
  • A Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Experience working within utilities, water, wastewater, process or industrial environments.
  • Good mechanical knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, pipework and rotating equipment.
  • Experience carrying out maintenance, refurbishment, installation or repair activities.
  • An interest in fault finding, diagnostics and performance improvement.
  • Knowledge of pumping systems, hydraulics or monitoring equipment would be advantageous.
  • Good IT, communication and reporting skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • A proactive approach with a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
  • A full UK driving licence.
This is a unique opportunity to build a career in a specialist area of wastewater operations and asset optimisation.

You'll work across a diverse range of wastewater assets, helping to improve efficiency, reliability and resilience while protecting the environment and delivering an essential service.

If you're mechanically minded, enjoy solving problems and want to help improve critical wastewater infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
