We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Engineer (Setting out) to lead on the successful delivery of our flagship 20,000-capacity indoor arena in Bristol.

Once home to every UK-built Concorde, the Brabazon Hangars are being repurposed into a brand-new venue for Bristol and set to be the South West's top destination for music, comedy, sports, and entertainment.

In this role, you'll help oversee and maintain setting out control across our projects, supporting construction teams with dimensional accuracy, quality assurance checks, and a range of key engineering duties that keep the development moving with precision.

What you'll do

You'll be responsible for setting out the accuracy of live projects on the airfield, ranging from £5m to £300m.

You'll support a large delivery team with core engineering functions, with occasional assistance provided by site labour. As the development grows, there may also be an opportunity to bring in a graduate or Trainee Engineer to work alongside the current Engineer on site.

Other duties include:

  • providing and maintaining the primary controls around the arena project to allow subcontractors to set out their works and tie the project in with the broader development 
  • carrying out checks on the subcontractor's construction and setting out to ensure the project is constructed accurately and within dimensional tolerances, and maintain all relevant records and as-built surveys
  • being available to the Project team to offer technical support for surveys, sketches, and calculations as may be required
  • assisting with quality assurance, documentation and reporting as will be required.

What you'll need

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in a setting out role in large complex buildings.
  • Proficient in the use of surveying equipment.
  • Proficient use of Trimble (Viewpoint), Field View and SharePoint operating software.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Knowledge and experience of the construction industry, including above and below-ground structures and pipelines.
  • CSCS card and SSSTS/SMSTS.
  • Full UK driving license. 
  • First Aid at Work. 
  • Temporary Works Supervisor.
  • Working at Height/Manual Handling.
