Do you like working outdoors and want a role that offers real development and progression? Due to continued growth and increasing demand, we're looking for a Sewer Asset Surveying Team Leader to join our expanding team.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in one of the most important parts of the UK's wastewater infrastructure.

As a Sewer Asset Surveying Team (Rig) Leader, you'll oversee a small field team responsible for delivering high‑quality CCTV surveys, condition assessments, and asset data capture across the sewer network.

You'll be the person who ensures each job is completed safely, efficiently, and to industry standards, keeping the team organised, the client informed, and the data accurate.

Your base depot will be Taunton, but the role will involve travelling throughout the Wessex Water region. You'll be provided with a company van, tools, PPE, phone and laptop so you can carry out your work effectively and safely.

What you'll do

As part of the Sewer Solutions department, our Sewer Asset Surveying teams play a crucial role in assessing and maintaining the wastewater network across the region.

In this role, you will:

  • lead a sewer surveying rig and supervise day‑to‑day site operations
  • carry out proactive and reactive surveys of pipes, culverts and tunnels using the latest technology and equipment
  • report on structural and service conditions, identify issues requiring immediate attention, and update GIS plans
  • operate and oversee specialist equipment such as CCTV crawler units, winches and gas monitors
  • complete site documentation, risk assessments and daily reporting
  • work closely with other team leaders, operatives, technicians, project managers, schedulers, data analysts, network engineers and external contractors
  • ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently and to industry standards
  • maintain equipment and ensure rigs remain fully operational and compliant
  • ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, including confined space entry and traffic management requirements
  • support and mentor junior team members.

What you'll need

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • experience working in the drainage industry
  • OS19X pipe sewer classification and OS21X brick sewer classification
  • experience using WinCan software and strong GIS knowledge
  • a flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and nights
  • a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • excellent communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills
  • the confidence to lead a small team in a field‑based environment
  • a full, valid UK driving licence.

The following qualifications are beneficial but not essential, as training can be provided:

  • Confined Space Entry
  • NRSWA Unit 2 or 10.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
