Do you like working outdoors? Are you looking for a role that offers development opportunities? Do you want to have a positive impact on our customers? If so, this role would be perfect for you to start your career as part of an award-winning business.

Please note, that night working is required as an essential part of this role.

You will carry out water mains flushing which helps with the reduction of discolouration and water quality issues.

Based out of Taunton in Somerset, you will travel and work around Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Therefore, you will need to hold a valid driving licence – a company vehicle will be provided for your travel.

What you'll do

As a Supply Quality Technician, you will work as part of a team that reports to the Supply Quality Technician Team Leader.

You will be responsible for actively flushing the demand management areas (DMAs) identified and ensuring they are completed on time and schedule, as well as assisting in the reduction of discolouration and water quality issues.

Once the flushing has been completed you will need to record information you have generated, such as volumes of water, lengths of main flushed and levels of discolouration found on the company database to enable others to analyse the data.

With training, you will be expected to plan how the flushing of each DMA is to be carried out to ensure the maximum removal of deposits from water mains with minimal impact on customers, while also writing basic reports on our findings after works are completed.

There are occasions when we respond to reactive requests for flushing assistance as a team to enable other parts of the network to operate the system but limit the impact of discoloured water on our customers.

What you'll need

To be successful you will have a 'can do' attitude, while also being confident and self-motivated.

It is preferred that you will have some relevant experience in the water industry, but training can be provided for the right candidate.

You will also have:

  • an understanding of water supply networks and potential problems
  • knowledge of hydraulics
  • knowledge of DMA zoning
  • NRSWA Street Works certification
  • a valid driving licence
  • a hygiene card
  • an understanding of the Lone Worker system and the health and safety policies and services available.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
