We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Project Engineer to join our Sewer Rehabilitation team. This team delivers capital schemes across the region, working together to provide the best solutions for our customers and the environment.
Our team is recognised for innovation and sustainability and has a proven track record of delivering cutting-edge solutions, including trenchless technologies such as Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining. We are proud members of the UK Society for Trenchless Technology (UKSTT), promoting best practice and continuous improvement in no-dig solutions.
What you'll do
As a Trainee Project Engineer, you will support the delivery of planned sewer rehabilitation projects from outline design through to construction and completion. You will gain hands-on experience and develop your skills while working alongside experienced engineers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- assisting with all aspects of the planning phase to ensure robust preparation for successful delivery
- supporting collaboration with colleagues in environmental, legal, estates, civils and StreetWorks teams
- helping with financial reporting, contractor coordination, and third-party communications
- learning to ensure compliance with Wessex Water policies and CDM obligations
- exploring innovative trenchless rehabilitation techniques, including CIPP lining, and contributing ideas for improvement.
We will support you with a strong culture of learning and personal development, including on-the-job training and mentoring. Opportunities to gain knowledge of trenchless technologies and sustainable engineering practices.
What you'll need
To be a great fit for this role, we're looking for someone with a positive can-do attitude who has a great work ethic.
You will be well-organised, proactive, and a confident communicator both verbally and in writing. Ideally, you will be from the water industry and/or have a construction background.
You must have a safety-first approach and good organisational skills.
In addition, we are looking for someone who:
- is currently completing or has completed an HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- is proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new digital tools (e.g., GIS, CAD)
- holds a full UK driving licence and can travel across the region.
Experience (even limited) with site supervision and understanding of CDM Regulations roles and responsibilities would also be an advantage.
Depending on the workload at the end of the contract, this role has the potential to become permanent.
