Trainee Planner

As a Trainee Planner for YTL Construction UK, you'll follow a structured training and development programme while gaining practical experience across a varied portfolio of engineering and construction projects.

You will initially shadow an experienced Planner and work alongside Project Managers, Designers, Environmental, Estates, Estimating, Commercial and Construction teams.

This will give you a broad understanding of how projects are developed and delivered, both internally by YTL Infrastructure and through external partners under NEC4 contractual arrangements.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Planning Manager, you will receive practical guidance and progressively take responsibility for defined planning activities as your knowledge and capability develop.

You'll work collaboratively to:

• shadow an experienced Planner and learn how realistic design and construction programmes are developed, maintained and reviewed
• undertake structured Primavera P6 training and apply your learning through supervised programme development, updating, analysis and reporting
• assist with preparing, maintaining and analysing project schedules
• develop an understanding of programme logic, critical path, float, dependencies, constraints and delay mitigation
• support monthly programme updates, including progress information and programme data dates
• attend project and site meetings alongside an experienced Planner to understand progress measurement and programme updating
• spend time within other departments, including Project Management, Design, Environmental, Estates, Estimating, Commercial and Construction, to understand the wider project delivery process
• help prepare programme summaries, lookaheads and milestone variance reports
• learn and follow agreed baseline-management and change-control processes
• develop an understanding of NEC4 programme requirements, Power BI reporting and the monthly reporting cycle
• help identify emerging risks, constraints, changes and data-quality issues, escalating these to the supervising Planner or Project Manager
• use standard planning templates and Primavera P6 coding structures to support consistent reporting.

The role will include travel to project sites and offices across the Wessex Water region, providing practical exposure to different projects, teams and stages of delivery.

What you'll need

You do not need to be an experienced Planner. We are looking for someone curious, organised and motivated to build a career in project planning.

You'll have:

• a strong willingness to learn and develop new technical skills
• good organisational skills and attention to detail
• clear written and verbal communication skills
• a collaborative approach and the ability to build positive working relationships
• the confidence to ask questions, seek feedback and escalate concerns
• the ability to manage assigned tasks and meet agreed deadlines
• an interest in engineering, construction, infrastructure or project delivery
• basic Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Teams skills
• a willingness to work across different teams, projects and working environments
• a commitment to completing the role's structured training and development programme.

You will be working towards, or willing to undertake, a relevant Level 3 or higher qualification in engineering, construction, project controls or a related discipline.

You must also be willing to complete CSCS or EUSR Site Visitor requirements where required.

Previous experience of Primavera P6, NEC4, Power BI or project planning is not essential, as training will be provided.
