We are seeking a proactive and motivated Upstream Leakage Engineer to support the delivery of leakage reduction and network resilience objectives across our upstream water distribution network. Working closely with the Senior Upstream Leakage Engineer, you will carry out leakage investigations and surveys, analyse network data, support repair activities and help identify unaccounted-for water and unknown connections. You'll play an important role in achieving challenging performance targets while contributing to innovative approaches to leakage management through new technologies and equipment trials.
The successful candidate will have experience or knowledge of leakage detection and water networks, strong communication skills, a commitment to health, safety and environmental best practice, and a passion for continuous improvement.
This is a predominantly field-based role offering excellent development opportunities, including support towards a Level 3 Water Industry Network Technician qualification
What You'll Do
- Carry out upstream leakage investigations and surveys to identify unaccounted-for water, unknown connections and network performance issues.
- Support the delivery of leakage reduction, network resilience and compliance targets across the upstream network.
- Analyse network data, including upstream flows and portable logging, to identify issues and support effective resolution.
- Assist with leakage repair activities and maintain clear communication with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
- Plan and deliver leakage detection surveys using industry best-practice techniques and technologies.
- Support equipment trials and the implementation of innovative leakage detection solutions.
- Make informed, risk-based decisions that balance leakage reduction, customer impact and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the Senior Upstream Leakage Engineer, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence.
What You'll Need
- Experience in leakage reduction or a related operational water network role, with a track record of achieving results.
- Knowledge of upstream water distribution networks, including production systems, pressure management and leakage detection methods.
- Ability to interpret network data and use it to support operational decision-making.
- Good commercial awareness to support effective and cost-efficient detection and repair activities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Awareness of working around construction plant, large machinery and deep excavations, with an understanding of associated CDM requirements.
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures, environmental compliance and pollution prevention practices.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering results.
- Interest in innovation and technology, with a willingness to adopt new approaches to leakage management.
- A desire to learn and develop, working towards a Level 3 Water Industry Network Technician qualification with support from the Senior Upstream Leakage Engineer.
- Environmental awareness and commitment to safe working practices in the field.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Flexibility to work outdoors in varied conditions, undertake occasional night work, and participate in a standby rota when required.
