Do you enjoy using data to protect the environment and ensure operational compliance? We have a great opportunity for a Wastewater Monitoring Analyst to join our Water Recycling Monitoring Team.
Wessex Water must comply with regulatory targets around data quality, data availability and asset performance. This team is responsible for monitoring data across the Water Recycling Operations directorate, helping to ensure our monitoring is consistent and reliable, identifying emerging issues quickly to support operational and regulatory decision-making.
What you'll do
Your role will principally focus on assuring data, such as wastewater flow on sewage pumping stations, Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) at storm overflows and newly installed water quality monitoring stations. You'll use this data to highlight compliance issues/risks, investigate anomalies and provide operational insight/actions to help teams take the right actions. You will be responsible for tracking action progress so that issues are rectified in a timely manner.
You'll work closely with colleagues across multiple directorates, including front-line field teams, helping to achieve regulatory compliance targets, including escalating and reporting to executive teams.
Responsibilities include:
- monitoring and analysing wastewater regulatory compliance data, ensuring issues are identified and appropriately escalated
- reviewing spills to the environment and ensuring they are recorded accurately on external-facing platforms (Coast and Rivers Watch)
- producing regular exception reporting to support operational teams, identifying data anomalies, missing or unreliable information and monitoring failures
- supporting investigations into flow performance, monitoring issues and equipment failures, helping to identify root causes and appropriate actions
- supporting the management of MCERTS maintenance issues and monitoring records
- tracking investigations and actions through to resolution, ensuring clear ownership and timely progress
- carrying out monitoring, reliability and data-quality checks and supporting performance reporting
- working with operational and technical teams to identify recurring problems and opportunities for improvement
- providing accurate monitoring information and analysis to Operations, Compliance, and other stakeholders.
What you'll need
To be considered for this opportunity, you'll have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ideally with experience working with operational, monitoring or performance data. You'll be comfortable interpreting large datasets, identifying trends and anomalies and turning data into clear information/actions that help others make decisions.
You will have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to navigate complex and varied pressures through changing weather conditions.
Experience or knowledge of how the water industry is regulated, compliance standards, wastewater networks, flow monitoring, EDM or the wider water industry would be particularly beneficial.
Additionally, we are looking for:
- strong data analysis and interpretation skills
- an analytical approach to identifying problems, investigating root causes and developing solutions
- experience of collecting, validating and analysing data and producing accurate reports
- excellent Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with monitoring and reporting systems
- an understanding of wastewater networks, treatment processes or flow measurement would be advantageous
- knowledge of EDM, FPF, MCERTS or regulatory monitoring would be beneficial
- excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, reliable and traceable data
- strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to different audiences
- excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple issues and changing operational demands
- a collaborative approach and the confidence to work with a wide range of operational and technical teams
- the ability to take ownership of investigations and actions and follow them through to resolution.
