Do you like driving and working with customers? Do you have the confidence to learn and undertake a range of technical and dynamic work tasks? If so, we have a great opportunity within our Supply Sampling team, as a Water Quality Inspector (WQI) Courier.
This role will see you travelling across the picturesque Wessex Water region with a mixture of site work, customer engagement, couriering and some office-based tasks.
A company vehicle and all tools needed to carry out the role will be provided.
What you'll do
Every day, Wessex Water schedules and carries out the regulatory sampling programme for the water and sewerage services we provide.
In addition, we provide sampling and analytical services to a range of customers, including businesses, local authorities, drinking water providers and environmental consultants.
You will be working in a support role within our Sampling and Couriering teams. This multifunctional role involves sampling clean water sites to meet legal requirements as part of keeping water supplies safe and clean, and couriering samples to our Scientific Centre in Saltford. This is done to the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) and United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKA) accreditation standards (our independent regulator and scientific auditor).
Your duties will include:
- taking water quality samples
- carrying out scientific field tests such as chlorine measurements
- arranging and taking samples at customer properties and couriering samples to the laboratory
- providing cover for daily set courier routes.
As this is a support role, it covers a wide variety of tasks and requires flexibility. It's variable and relies on a high level of self-management, with full support given and the opportunity to learn and develop your career in this exciting and diverse industry.
Your regular working days will be Monday to Friday, including bank holidays. The standard working hours are between 08.30am and 5.00pm, which will be adapted as needed when covering a set courier route.
What you'll need
You will:
- have a positive and flexible approach to supporting team colleagues and enjoy the varied and dynamic nature of the role
- be naturally customer-focused
- be confident in professionally dealing with customers over the phone and in-person
- be organised, have good attention to detail, and be comfortable learning a range of water sampling procedures
- need to be computer literate with Word and Excel, and be comfortable working with multiple applications, including Outlook and SharePoint.
Ideally, you will possess A levels in English, Maths and Science (or equivalent) as a minimum.
As you will be couriering samples to the Scientific Centre in Saltford, a full clean manual driving licence is essential, and you would need to be located within reasonable driving distance to the site.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
