What you'll do

As the Capital Liaison Technician, you will work with the Operational and Engineering teams within our Sustainable Operations and Engineering (SOE) department, on the appraisal, design, construction, commissioning and financial reporting of capital schemes to ensure we achieve the right solution for Wessex Water.

You will act as the key decision maker on schemes and be responsible for ensuring that information is appropriately communicated between all stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • reviewing scheme briefs and ensuring that the design proposals and scheme approval papers have been discussed prior to submission and that all comments relating to the project are covered
  • critically review capital schemes and ensure that all options are investigated and that the most practical/cost-effective option have been adopted
  • ensuring that scheme proposals and design meet operational requirements and the company's technical standards
  • providing feedback to the teams with the project status, highlighting specific problem areas and any major issues and key dates that impact upon operational activities
  • attending construction site/progress meetings and providing operational comments and feedback on constructional issues and changes, drawing on wider team input
  • discussing and agreeing the commissioning plan and ensuring adequate resources and time are allocated by the scheme Project Manager and Operational teams
  • co-ordinating project and operational staff to deliver the commissioning, training and takeover of capital projects
  • ensuring the original brief has been satisfied and all required documentation and training has been provided before agreeing takeover and scheme closedown
  • reviewing operating and maintenance manuals, as well as other handover documentation to ensure that they cover all aspects of the operational requirements of the scheme, including all health and safety issues
  • reviewing the revenue effects of new obligations for capital schemes for accuracy and agreeing the revenue effect on manning levels and monetary budgets.

What you'll need

To be successful you will have a safety-first approach, be highly motivated and comfortable working using your own initiative. You will be a natural problem solver and confident communicator, both verbally and in writing.

In addition, you will have:

  • a minimum of five years' experience in water production and supply, sewerage or waste treatment
  • knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • working knowledge of functional M&E equipment used in the water industry
  • NC level education or equivalent experience in the water industry
  • IT competence, particularly in Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word and Access.

Due to the nature of this role, it is essential you hold a valid driving licence; a company vehicle will be provided.
