We have an exciting new opportunity for a Construction Manager to join YTL Construction UK, to work on one of the largest and most exciting private regeneration projects in the UK, with multiple projects being coordinated simultaneously. 

We are currently transforming the historic former Filton Airfield, the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel, into a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol, known as Brabazon.

Interchange building will form the gateway to the Brabazon development, comprising of 3 main sections within a single 9 story building located and adjoining the New Brabazon train station currently being constructed, which will include:

  • a proposed railway station ticket office and Café (ground floor of building)
  • offices (upper floors of building)
  • provision of accessible parking spaces along with associated hard and soft landscaped areas.

The Interchange building is an RC frame building with a mixture of traditional brickwork, curtain wall glazing and ceramic cladding facades.

What you'll do 

You'll be required to oversee site management and external resources required for the project on an individual and team basis, whilst managing the delivery of the substructures, RC frame and external works.

You'll be required to work closely with other internal departments, such as technical services, planning, commercial and design, to collectively achieve project aims and objectives, whilst ensuring the successful delivery of the project in line with all stakeholders' expectations. 

Within the role, you'll contribute to design development in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones, whilst assisting with the timely sequencing, methodology, and production of all necessary plans. 

In addition, you will be required to: 

  • coordinate supply chain deliveries on a weekly basis
  • develop, implement, and monitor working programmes that meet the long-term objectives set 
  • set appropriate build stage milestones 
  • lead the health and safety culture of the site, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures 
  • input into technical design to ensure buildability is a key consideration 
  • input into the technical and capability aspects of procurement and production of the scope of works for packages  
  • manage risks to avoid project delays, reputational damage, and contractual disputes 
  • introduce systems and processes to safeguard, manage and deliver building materials 
  • ensure that a logistics plan is in place and implemented that meets the needs of the construction team, whilst also satisfying the wider project
  • produce progress and management reports as required  
  • collate and submit weekly returns, such as health and safety, diaries and records, and quality management checks.

What you'll need

The successful individual will have previous experience as a Construction Manager or Senior Site Manager and will have a proven track record of successfully delivering major projects with either a Tier 1 main contractor or sub-contractor. 

You will have either an HNC, HND, or degree in a construction or engineering subject and ideally hold membership with a relevant industry body such as CIOB, APM, CIAT or RICS. 

As a construction professional, you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • the ability to develop, manage, and maintain successful relationships, both internally and externally 
  • an understanding of document management systems, such as Viewpoint and Fieldview
  • the ability to implement project controls and planning tools aimed at managing the deliverables 
  • working knowledge of typical construction contracts and professional appointments 
  • be able to self-manage time and priorities, and receive high-level delegation of tasks and responsibilities 
  • be able to communicate in a range of styles to suit different purposes, such as presentations, reports, and in meetings. 
  • demonstrate leadership through action and behaviours 
  • be an enthusiastic team player, who can listen, understand, motivate and show confidence to make decisions when required 
  • maintain personal and professional development regarding legislation and technology, and industry best practice.
