Are you an effective communicator with excellent prioritisation skills? Do you want to work in a role that is crucial to providing essential services to 2.9 million customers? If so, we have a great opportunity for you to join our team.
What you'll do
The control room based at Claverton Down is the nerve centre of the operational business. It's responsible for remotely monitoring all Wessex Water sites 24 hours a day, while also providing excellent service to customers, both internal and external.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and focused individual to join our team of dedicated Control Room Alarm Handlers, with a drive to deliver excellent service through effective alarm and incident management, ensuring all expectations and standards are met and exceeded.
In this position, you will be working a rotating shift pattern between the hours of 6am and midnight, Monday to Sunday, plus a periodic 24-hour standby requirement. Shifts range from 9 to 12 hours. Annual leave is incorporated within the shift pattern with regular fixed breaks, consisting of two eight day breaks in each eight week period.
Responsibilities will include:
- monitoring, analysing and scheduling telemetry alarms in a busy and high-pressure environment,
- working closely with the Waste and Regional Operations Controllers to support critical control room functions
- liaising with emergency services, regulatory bodies, local authorities, and a wide range of operational management and staff
- enacting backup processes and liaising with IT during critical system issues
- working with Operations and IT in pursuit of alarm optimisation, which requires an in-depth understanding of our telemetry systems
- troubleshooting a wide range of ad hoc requests, operational activities, and emergency issues
- liaising with customers, expectation management, and managing customer incidents
- planning and organising all tasks to maintain regulatory compliance, reduce risk and cost, and obtain maximum efficiency.
What you'll need
You will have an inquisitive nature and a natural ability for logical thinking and problem-solving. You will need to efficiently assess any situation and make a clear, decisive judgment on the solution, giving clear direction to all parties on progress and outcome.
Excellent team and multi-tasking skills are key to this role, as is the ability to effectively resolve issues. You should be self-motivated and able to work on your initiative.
To ensure our customers receive the best possible service from us, communication skills are vital, as is a passion for delivering outstanding service.
Strict SLAs form part of control room activities, so you will need to have the ability to follow procedures and attention to detail will underpin everything you do.
If you have the aptitude and approach to effectively problem solve under pressure, we'll ensure you get all the training you need to confidently adapt your skills to the role.
What you'll receive
- Total pension contributions up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- Additional 20% shift allowance.
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
