We are looking for a Microsoft Data Engineer to design, implement and optimise data pipelines, data lakes, lakehouses and databases.

You will be involved in designing and implementing data flows, building efficient data models, integrating multiple data sources, and optimising performance and cost while aligning with enterprise data governance, security and compliance.

What you'll do

You will:

  • design, develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
  • you will work with our Senior Data Engineer and Architects across the business
  • implement Lakehouse and Warehouse structures
  • develop PySpark notebooks for data transformation and enrichment
  • support and enhance legacy data integrations, eg, SSIS
  • design and implement data models optimised for Power BI and downstream analytics (eg, star/snowflake schemas)
  • Optimise Lakehouse performance with partitioning, indexing and caching strategies
  • collaborate with BI teams to ensure seamless Power BI dataset and semantic model integration
  • ensure compliance with data governance (GDPR)
  • participate in data quality, lineage and cataloguing initiatives to ensure enterprise-wide trusted datasets
  • contribute to CI/CD automation pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • support key stakeholders
  • coordinate with data users and stakeholders to develop and improve data processes
  • maintain a good understanding of the technologies that are relevant to YTL UK data and analytics initiatives, covering standards, features and products that could be exploited
  • contribute to the establishment and maintenance of agreed standards, patterns and designs applicable to the work undertaken and to ensure that they are adhered to
  • ensure integration solutions comply with relevant standards and regulations, including information security best practices.

What you'll need

  • ETL/ELT design with a focus on incremental and streaming data pipelines.
  • Fabric (Data Engineering, Data factory and Lakehouse).
  • Azure Data Services (Data Lake storage, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Event Hubs, and Logic Apps).
  • PySpark, Spark SQL, and Python for data processing and transformations.
  • Expertise in Delta Lake, Parquet and OneLake storage concepts.
  • Power BI integration, including semantic models and DirectLake.
  • SQL Server and T-SQL with performance tuning expertise.
  • KQL (Kusto Query Language) for Eventstream and real-time analytics.
  • Familiarity with machine learning integration and predictive analytics pipelines.
  • Experience with data security, encryption and compliance standards.
  • Excellent teamwork skills for collaboration with highly technical colleagues.
  • Familiarity with testing techniques used to plan and execute software tests of all application components (functional and non-functional) to verify that the software satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors.
  • The ability to translate business requirements into technical data solutions.
