As our new Developer Services Utility Inspector, you will sit in the Developer Services team, which deals with all types of new development and is a central point of contact for developers, councils, self-lay Providers (SLPs), NAVs and the public.
In this newly created role as a Utility Inspector, you will report to the Self-Lay Manager and work within a small team to ensure strategies to support new development are implemented.
What you'll do
This role offers a varied workload covering the Wessex Water area, primarily involving site visits to construction projects, with some office-based activities. You will work closely with Developers, Self-Lay Providers (SLPs), Distribution, AIM, Main Laying, YTL Construction, and Wholesale teams.
Working alongside Self-Lay Engineers and Customer Coordinators, you will provide technical guidance to developers, SLPs, internal stakeholders and attend pre-start meetings to support the successful delivery of projects whilst ensuring that we achieve 100% DmeX compliance and excellent customer service.
You will also undertake site surveillance inspections and compliance audits to verify that works are completed in accordance with approved designs, company standards and regulatory requirements, including:
- verifying compliance of materials with Regulation 31 requirements
- confirming that the as-built drawings accurately reflect the installed assets
- undertaking SCRMC inspections to verify compliance with NJUG requirements
- ensuring mains and boundary box installation depths meet required specifications and cover standards
- inspecting newly installed sluice valves (SVs) to confirm correct installation and operation
- assessing plot connections for compliance with approved design and installation standards
- conducting supply route inspections to verify plot to postal and UPRN addresses
- performing smart meter signal checks to confirm adequate communication and connectivity
- manage Minor/Major Design variations
- manage SLP/Developer queries in a timely manner
- arrange site walk-offs with stakeholders
- manage identified Defects through to completion, checking progress onsite
- facilitate/attend pre-start meetings with the SLP/Developer and DI attendance
- the annual review of Contestability summary (ACS)
- developing expertise with the Design Construction Specifications (DCS)
- keep up to date with the codes of adoption processes and the water sector guidance.
You will assist in reviewing and updating the Wessex Water construction design specification and annual contestability policy to ensure clear guidance is available to SLPs.
Produce supply-related water designs and verify charges before they are sent out to the customer.
What you'll need
We are looking for a good communicator, confident with good time management and organisational skills and a willingness to lean.
You will be IT literate and have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and a clean driving licence.
In addition, we are looking for:
- experience working within the water industry
- an understanding of DMEX (desirable)
- knowledge/awareness of the Water Sector Guidance (WSG) (desirable)
- good customer service Skills
- knowledge of water supply networks
- main laying/construction experience (desirable)
- knowledge of GIS systems.
