Energy Placement Student

If you are currently studying a course with a strong maths, engineering or science bias and you have a keen interest in data science, we have a great placement student opportunity for you.

Based at our award-winning office in Bath, this position offers the chance to gain an in-depth knowledge of the water industry. You will be given the appropriate training needed to perform the role. 

This placement will be for a period of 12 months from Summer 2026 (to be agreed upon with the successful applicant).

What you'll do

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Energy team as a placement student.

YTL UK is a major energy user, and you will play a key part in improving data quality, accelerating project delivery and enabling the team to identify and implement energy-saving opportunities more effectively.

This work has been very successful, and the team has recently started to expand their work into new areas. This work will continue to integrate new information and data that already exists, accelerate project delivery and enable growth.

You will:

• provide dedicated support to the Energy Efficiency Analyst by ensuring smooth data flow for advanced modelling and reporting
• work on site dashboards, using monitoring and targeting systems to provide relevant and actionable information to our site staff, allowing them to understand site performance and take appropriate action
• assist with data integration for various projects and proof of concepts
• contribute to energy efficiency initiatives by supporting the preparation of baseline and post-optimisation comparisons
• continue the excellent work of the Energy Efficiency Analyst and past placement students, developing ways to analyse the data using tools such as Meniscus Calculation Engine (MCE), Python, Excel, Power BI and Qlikview.

What you'll need

We are looking for undergraduates in the second or third year of a BEng, MEng, MSc or BSc degree course, seeking an industrial placement that contains a strong maths or engineering bias.

An aptitude for data science and analytics is essential.

To be considered, you'll have:

• an A or A* in maths and science at A level or equivalent
• excellent analytical skills
• the ability to manage large amounts of data in various formats
• the ability to relate data to the physical equipment and processes
• a high-level proficiency in the use of Excel
• the ability to produce reports
• the ability to communicate with a variety of operational and managerial staff
• a good team player with the ability to work flexibly
• the ability to drive and to travel throughout the region independently
• an interest in the water industry, sustainability and energy efficiency.
