We are looking for someone who can confidently champion our sustainability ambitions, communicate clearly, and influence positive environmental outcomes at every stage of a project.

You'll bring a collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset, together with the confidence to negotiate, and advocate for environmentally responsible design. This role is fundamentally about embedding sustainability into decision‑making, driving high-quality outcomes, and ensuring our projects meet – and wherever possible exceed – environmental and planning requirements.

  • Representing Turnbull at meetings with stakeholders, regulators, and community groups.
  • Coordinating specialist surveys and environmental/sustainability assessments to meet project deadlines.
  • Providing early and ongoing input to design and construction teams to maximise sustainable outcomes.
  • Preparing or reviewing Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and advising on incidents or mitigation measures.
  • Embedding sustainability principles into project delivery, including resource efficiency, carbon reduction, biodiversity enhancement, and climate resilience.

What you'll need

  • Strong working knowledge of environmental regulation, planning processes, EIA, and sustainability assessment frameworks.
  • Experience influencing sustainable design within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex environmental issues.
  • Experience coordinating multi‑disciplinary work involving a range of environmental and sustainability specialisms (e.g., flood risk, ecology, waste, carbon, archaeology).
  • Experience working with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of construction methods, pollution prevention, and environmental risk management.
  • Experience in sectors such as water, energy, rail, or highways is welcome.Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work across multiple projects.
  • A relevant environmental or sustainability degree, with membership (or working toward membership) of an appropriate professional body.
  • Good IT skills.
  • A full UK driving licence (and access to a vehicle for work).
It is desirable that you also have:
  • An understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Basic GIS capability.
  • Awareness of environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
  • Experience applying carbon accounting, biodiversity net gain, or circular economy principles.
