Do you have experience in GIS and an interest in the water and environment sector, and would be keen to learn more about hydraulics and hydraulic modelling? Do you have an interest in finding creative ways to use GIS tools and analysis to understand and help solve complex environmental and engineering problems?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Geospatial Analyst.

What you'll do

Our specialist Modelling team at YTL UK is responsible for the delivery of wastewater network projects across the region, with a particular focus on new development, reducing overflow operation and preventing flooding.

You'll be responsible for:

  • smart geodata tool development and data analysis, including management of key datasets for business use and ArcPy/SQL/PowerBi tool creation, with an emphasis on automation and optimisation of existing processes
  • construction and management of geodatabases for automated environment risk options, screening/assessment and standardised option layout plans
  • training and development of colleagues in GIS processes
  • partnership working engagement, including Surface water/SuDS/Environment opportunity and risk mapping.

There will also be further opportunities to get involved with hydraulic modelling using INFOWORKS ICM, such as:

  • building and verifying integrated catchment models
  • using river quality modelling and survey results to assess the impact of discharges from combined sewer overflows (CSOs)
  • developing outline solutions to resolve hydraulic problems, using both sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and more traditional ‘hard-engineering' approaches.

The role will require engagement with other departments to ensure we identify and maximise potential synergies with existing projects, the available data sources and integration with existing data platforms.

There may be a future opportunity for line management as the business structure and associated needs develop.

What you'll need

We are looking for a highly organised individual who has excellent attention to detail and accuracy. You'll be self-motivated, use your own initiative and successfully work under moderate supervision, as well as communicate confidently with other team members and colleagues throughout the company.

You'll also need:

  • a relevant degree
  • experience using ArcGIS Pro/GIS packages
  • experience using programming languages, such as R or Python would be very beneficial
  • excellent IT and communication skills
  • good data management, listening and interpretation skills with an appreciation of technical objectives
  • the ability to communicate technical information to all levels using GIS-based outputs
  • experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • to be comfortable working on your own or as part of a team
  • to be comfortable managing your time to ensure deadlines are met.

All other relevant training required will be provided.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
