Our project delivery teams oversee the design and construction of new and upgraded assets across our whole region.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Project Engineer to join us, focusing on our portfolio of regulatory wastewater enhancements.
What you'll do
As the M&E Project Engineer, you will work as part of our in-house engineering team and assist in the engineering, management and delivery of projects working across our treatment centres and network sites.
You will be a key part of ensuring projects deliver the engineering requirements of the business and are fit for purpose, whilst providing robust challenge to the status quo to deliver savings and innovations.
Reporting to the Assistant Project Manager, you will be the key technical point of contact for mechanical and electrical engineering and construction issues on your projects, liaising between the technical, project management, commercial and operational teams.
Some of your day-to-day duties will include:
- providing engineering and constructability advice and input through the design and construction phases of projects
- reviewing design information to ensure suitability and compliance with company design standards and procurement rules
- providing on-site engineering support to the site installation teams during construction and close out to continue delivering savings and high-quality installs
- leading and managing the sustainable procurement of mechanical and electrical equipment required for construction projects
- assisting with preparing the technical elements of contracts and sub-contracts
- liaising with suppliers to ensure quality and programme targets are met
- reviewing the technical validity of estimates and commercial forecasts
- coordinating site visits and survey work to ensure designs can be completed correctly and efficiently
- compiling and checking project operation and maintenance manuals, along with other associated project completion documentation.
This role will involve a mix of office, home and on-site work.
What you'll need
To succeed in this role, you will need to:
- be a highly enthusiastic and passionate engineer with a proven commitment to delivering projects and programmes of work
- be educated to HND/Degree level, or have equivalent practical experience, in mechanical or electrical engineering
- have great communication skills and the ability to make decisions effectively
- have commercial awareness and understanding of key areas, including programmes of work, estimating/forecasting and experience working with NEC contracts.
- have excellent time-management and the ability to work both unaided and as part of a team.
Previous water industry experience is preferred, but is not essential.
Due to the need to visit sites across the Wessex Water region, a full UK driving licence is essential.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.

- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
