What you'll do

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will enable and carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive work at our water recycling sites in Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch and surrounding areas. You will be part of the local Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation (EM&I) team where you will assist the Manager with organising your workloads, while also working with site operation teams, other in-house departments and contractors to keep the sites compliant.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be to ensure the effective operation of plant machinery and equipment is maintained, as well as carrying out fault finding, fault diagnosis and fault resolution.

A big part of this role will be to continuously identify and look for ways to make improvements around the site to increase the reliability of our plant, assets and site compliance.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • planning and organising  workloads
  • assisting/working with contractors
  • visually inspecting and condition monitoring assets
  • reviewing Scada trends to review system performance and investigate issues
  • managing critical spares and spares lists
  • delivering a first-class safety approach to work
  • working with DSEAR zones
  • assisting with the delivery of schemes
  • the maintenance of plant, both planned and reactive
  • improvements to the operation of sludge treatment sites
  • delivering corporate energy targets, whilst minimising cost of operational sites
  • ensuring good liaison with outside contractors
  • maximising first line maintenance (oiling and greasing schedules)
  • reducing costly and high risk reactive work
  • promoting health and safety at all times.

What you'll need

To be considered, we are seeking a Maintenance Technician who has comprehensive experience in mechanical or electrical fault finding and PPM, with a background working within a 24/7 operational plant and machinery environment.

It is essential that candidates applying for the role hold a City & Guilds/BTEC, NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or a time served engineering apprenticeship.

Equally important is your health and safety knowledge. You will be familiar with working in a health and safety focussed environment, where you have personally contributed to safer working practices.

Additional requirements:

  • extensive knowledge and practical experience in both mechanical and electrical engineering (desired)
  • an understanding of health and safety and implementation of safe systems of work
  • to be computer literate
  • to be an effective communicator and a great problem solver
  • to be able to contribute to the team's efforts to optimise treatment processes and procedures
  • formal electrical training (dual skilled) is preferred but not essential
  • sewage treatment works process knowledge,  Conventional Digestion is desirable but not essential.
