Are you quick on your feet and assertive yet tactful in manging the end-to-end pre-construction process? If so, we have a sound opportunity for a Pre-Construction Manager to join our commercial team.  This role is primarily located in Nailsea, with an opportunity for Hybrid working and travelling as required to respective projects.

What you'll do

As a Pre-Construction Manager, you will play a crucial role in the early stages of our projects, overseeing the pre-construction phase with a focus on utility construction works. You will be responsible for coordinating with clients, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that projects are accurately estimated, planned, and prepared for successful delivery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the Civil Engineering and Utilities sector, with a strong understanding of the estimating process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preconstruction activities, including cost estimating, budget development, and value engineering.
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to ensure project designs align with client expectations and requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to mitigate potential challenges.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and procurement strategies.
  • Manage tendering processes and contract negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to review project opportunities and assess feasibility.
  • Conduct thorough site visits and assessments to gather relevant information for estimating purposes.
  • Work with the estimators to prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labour, and other expenses, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Interrogate the design and construction requirements for the bid
  • Develop project schedules, timelines, and phasing plans in coordination with the project management team.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities during the pre-construction phase and provide proactive solutions.
  • Review and analyse tender documents, contracts, and specifications to ensure compliance and mitigate potential issues.
  • Support the development of value engineering solutions to meet client objectives and budget constraints.

What you'll need

  • Proven experience as a Pre-Construction Manager or similar role within the Civil Engineering or Utilities sector.
  • Strong knowledge of construction estimating principles and techniques.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to deadlines.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field is preferred.
  • Driving license required.
