We are seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to join our team and play a key role in ensuring the safe design and operation of high-hazard processes.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex projects within industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, energy, utilities, and water.
What you'll do
You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust safety solutions that meet UK regulations and international standards.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- leading and supporting process safety activities across projects, including hazard identification and risk assessments
- facilitating and participating in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA studies
- developing and reviewing process safety documentation, such as Basis of Safety, design calculations, and safety specifications
- providing technical input on process drawings, relief sizing, control philosophies, and hazardous area classification
- using process safety software tools (e.g., PHAST, BowTieXP, PHA-Pro) to model and analyse risks
- collaborating with engineering teams to ensure compliance with UK safety regulations (COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX, CDM) and international standards (IEC 61508/61511, API, BS EN)
- influencing and communicating effectively across teams to embed a strong safety culture.
What you'll need
You must have a degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
Other essential requirements for this role include:
- proven experience in process safety or design engineering within high-hazard industries
- strong knowledge of UK safety regulations and international standards
- proficiency in process safety methodologies and hazard study facilitation
- competence in technical writing and communication, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- familiarity with process safety software tools and engineering documentation.
The following requirements are desirable, but not essential:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it
- experience in the UK water or utilities sector
- knowledge of environmental and sustainability considerations in process design
- training or certification in Process Safety Management or Functional Safety
- experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and lifecycle.
