We are seeking a proactive and technical Project Engineer to be involved in the successful fast-paced delivery of our Distribution Network Operator (DNO) power upgrade programme.
You will work closely with design, installation and project teams to ensure all technical solutions meet the project brief, comply with relevant standards and are delivered to the highest quality.
What you'll do
Acting as the primary technical point of contact, you'll bridge the gap between design and site delivery activities, splitting your time between office-based coordination and on-site engagement. This is a pivotal role that directly influences project success.
You'll also:
- collaborate with project teams to interpret requirements, understand project needs, and define technical specifications
- review and validate designs, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance
- produce well‑structured reports and specification documentation
- work with internal and external supply chain partners to identify required outputs, highlight constraints, and support planning
- assist Programme and Project Managers in defining project phases, identifying resource needs, and contributing to delivery planning
- support the development of cost estimates, programmes, and procurement schedules
- apply commercial understanding to ensure efficient project delivery and strong whole‑life cost awareness
- liaise with key stakeholders, including environmental teams, Operations, DNOs, third‑party contractors and suppliers to ensure equipment suitability
- monitor project progress, help maintain project schedules, and coordinate activities to resolve technical or delivery challenges on site
- ensure project delivery documents are updated and prepare and compile takeover and handover packages for project completion.
What you'll need
You'll have an HNC/HND or degree in an electrical engineering discipline or be working towards one, and solid experience in a project or technical engineering environment, ideally within the water industry.
You'll also have:
- experience working with 11kV systems and main incoming electrical supplies
- a proactive, flexible and can‑do approach with a willingness to challenge norms and drive continuous improvement.
- strong organisational skills and confident decision‑making abilities
- the ability to prioritise and manage complex workloads within time and budget constraints
- excellent presentation, IT, and communication skills.
And you'll ideally be:
- working towards (or holding) Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g. IET)
- experienced in feasibility, outline and detailed design of electrical projects
- knowledgeable of contract documentation (preparation and interpretation)
- familiar with CDM and Environmental regulations
- aware of Water Industry design standards and technical requirements.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from trained mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
