This is a key technical leadership role responsible for overseeing the performance of sewerage pumping systems across Water Recycling Centres and Sewage Pumping Stations, driving operational efficiency, asset resilience and measurable energy savings across the business.
The successful candidate will lead a specialist team of mechanical and electrical technicians, using detailed system analysis and engineering expertise to assess, optimise and improve pumping performance. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic performance analysis and cross-functional collaboration, particularly with our energy and operational teams.
What you'll do
- Lead and provide technical direction to a team of mechanical and electrical technicians delivering optimisation and resilience improvements across wastewater pumping assets.
- Oversee the testing and performance assessment of sewerage pumping systems across Water Recycling Centres and network pumping stations.
- Identify opportunities to improve pumping efficiency, reliability, resilience and whole-life asset performance.
- Develop and implement optimisation strategies to ensure pumping systems operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Lead the delivery of mitigation and improvement works.
- Produce technical reports and present performance outcomes, recommendations and business cases to stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement in pumping station performance standards across the business.
- Work alongside operational teams to restore pressurised rising mains to optimal capacity by reducing friction losses and improving flow efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance and support to teams carrying out pigging activities and associated maintenance works.
- Assess network performance data to identify restrictions, build-up and underperforming assets impacting pump station efficiency.
- Support improvements in pumping efficiency, resilience and operational reliability through proactive rising main maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with wider engineering and operational teams to ensure cleaning programmes align with business performance and energy reduction objectives.
What you'll need

- knowledge of mechanical and electrical pumping assets and associated control/monitoring systems
- experience delivering asset improvement projects and refurbishment programmes
- the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to operational and business stakeholders
- a proactive and solutions-focused approach to performance improvement.
It would also be desirable to have:
- a degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent experience)
