We have an exciting opportunity to join YTL Developments as a Senior Design Manager.
YTL Developments is currently transforming the historic former Filton Airfield – birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel – into a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol, known as Brabazon.
Bringing excellent attention to detail and a strong ability to manage, monitor and review design information for projects, you'll play a key role as Senior Design Manager within YTL Developments.
What you'll do
You'll play a leading role in managing and coordinating the design process from project inception through to completion.
You'll ensure that designs are fully coordinated, compliant, commercially viable, buildable and delivered in accordance with programme requirements.
Other responsibilities will include:
- leading the design management process during pre-construction and construction stages
- managing multidisciplinary consultant teams, specialist subcontractors and technical stakeholders
- reviewing and challenging design information to ensure compliance with project requirements, statutory obligations, employer requirements and industry best practice
- managing design programmes and monitoring design deliverables against key project milestones
- identifying, managing and mitigating technical, commercial and programme risks associated with the design
- driving design coordination, buildability and value engineering reviews to optimise quality, cost and programme outcomes
- chairing and leading design workshops, design team meetings and technical review sessions
- supporting procurement activities through design development, package definition and technical tender evaluations
- managing project-specific accreditation, approval and statutory compliance processes
- supporting Building Safety Act requirements including design assurance, Gateway submissions and Golden Thread information management where applicable
- ensuring all designers fulfil their obligations under the CDM Regulations and supporting the Principal Designer function where required
- working closely with internal development, delivery and commercial teams to ensure successful project outcomes
- providing technical leadership and mentoring to Design Managers and Design Coordinators within the wider team.
What you'll need
- Significant experience in a Design Management role on major construction or mixed-use development projects.
- Strong understanding of design, procurement and construction processes across all project stages.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary consultant teams and design coordination activities.
- Strong technical knowledge of current Building Regulations, Building Safety Act requirements and construction industry standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage design risk, programme interfaces and technical problem-solving.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution would be advantageous.
- Experience using Common Data Environments such as Viewpoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Asite or similar.
- Good understanding of BIM processes and digital design coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
