Are you data focused and committed to protecting and enhancing the environment? Are you motivated by turning complex environmental information into insights that drive meaningful improvements to water quality and the wider environment?
This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering Wessex Water's environmental investigations by leading on data management, analysis and reporting across our extensive environmental monitoring programmes.
We're looking for an enthusiastic scientist with strong analytical capability, excellent reporting skills and a passion for water quality to help us deliver our statutory obligations and drive environmental improvement.
We welcome applications from experienced Environmental Scientists, with appointment at Environmental Scientist or Senior Environmental Scientist level, depending on skills and experience.
The role will be based in either Wimborne or Bath; applicants based in either location are welcome to apply.
What you'll do
You will join our Water Quality Environmental Investigations team to support the delivery of Wessex Water's Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) commitments and wider regulatory requirements. This role blends hands-on scientific investigation with environmental data management.
You will:

- manage environmental datasets, by ensuring that monitoring data collected across water quality, hydrology and ecology programmes is robust, traceable and fit for regulatory use
- analyse complex datasets to understand environmental trends, impacts and risks
- produce clear, technically accurate reports that stand up to regulatory scrutiny
- collaborate with internal teams and external partners - regulators, contractors, landowners and research organisations
- champion data quality and consistency across the environmental investigations team
- manage environmental data (collection, processing, quality assurance and control, storage and interpretation)
- ensure environmental datasets meet regulatory quality requirements (EA, NE and others)
- produce technical reports and communicate findings to stakeholders
- coordinate and oversee contractors and analytical service providers
- maintain high standards of health & safety, including producing risk assessments and method statements
- design, plan, and deliver environmental investigations.
At a Senior level, you will lead investigations, project/budget management and mentor others.
What you'll need
- Strong experience working with environmental or water quality data, excellent data handling, quality assurance and problem solving skills
- Understanding of water quality processes, pollution pathways and environmental monitoring
- Competence in analytical tools such as Excel, R, and GIS (ArcGIS or similar)
- Project management, budget ownership and contractor management
- The ability to interpret complex environmental datasets and draw clear conclusions
- Strong technical report writing and confidence in communicating evidence to regulators
- Health & safety experience, including RAMS preparation
- The ability to work in both office and field environments
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site work
- Ability to swim.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
