To ensure delivery of our projected workload over the coming decade, we have a great opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer as we expand our in-house technical and design function and develop our construction engineering team.
What you'll do
Our YTL Construction UK business is a multi-disciplinary design and construct contractor, responsible for the delivery of an annual £160m programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across our region.
Based in our award-winning operations centre in Bath, the role will involve structural design of all aspects of infrastructure in the water industry, notably:
- shallow foundations
- retaining walls
- tank repair solutions with accompanying modelling and calculations.
As part of our team, you'll provide technical input and approval for all internally delivered structural/civil works. You will be helping to drive the function's development and provide support to project teams as well as other YTL group stakeholders.
The role involves asset condition assessments for both concrete, steel and GRP structures. There will also be projects where the impact of excavation for repairs within the zone of influence of residential properties will need to be risk assessed and parameters developed to enable temporary works design; this enables a good mix of office and site work.
You'll also be acting as a focal point for client asset management and lifecycle engineers.
What you'll need
Ideally, you will have a BEng or BSc in structural or civil engineering and preferably an MSc in structural engineering or comparative experience. You will be a chartered member of an appropriate professional institute, eg, IStructE or ICE.
You will have experience in designing tank, road and building foundations, shaft collars and base plugs and pipe supports, with comparative site experience of these being installed.
You will also need:
- excellent working knowledge of relevant Eurocodes and British Standards
- a good working knowledge of a range of software packages (AutoCAD 2D, Civil 3D, Tekla Tedds, Revit, ROBOT)
- good numeracy skills and good technical report writing skills and attention to detail
- to be confident and effective working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
- to be an excellent communicator with all levels of staff from director to site operative
- to be self-motivated and commercially aware
- to have excellent time management skills so that you can manage your own workload, including utilising consultant support where necessary
- a valid driving licence as you will be required to attend sites to provide reactive support around our region.
You will receive professional development support via our established mentoring scheme to enable you to take your career to the next level.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from trained mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
