Are you a problem solver? Do you have an eye for detail? Do you like the challenge of a varied working environment? Do you have previous process operations experience, within wastewater treatment or otherwise? If so, we have a great opportunity for you to join our Avonmouth team as a Shift Technician.

What you'll do

Your role will be to support the running of Avonmouth water recycling centre, the largest wastewater and bio-digestion site and only COMAH-regulated site on our network.

This will involve assisting with the operation and optimisation of both the sewage treatment and bio-digestion processes to meet quality and compliance standards and maintain the safety of all parties present at the plant.

This role supports the Shift Engineer by identifying and addressing process issues, managing the work of our staff and contractors across the plant, and playing a key position in both the safe operation of plant and emergency response to incidents.

You'll be working within a close-knit team, outdoors in all weather conditions, overseeing the site and dealing with challenges as they emerge.

This role is on a 12-hour shift rota basis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • daily site inspections to monitor process conditions and proactively identify faults/issues
  • hands-on activities including pump replacements, confined space entries, complex isolations and the maintenance of equipment
  • monitoring control room SCADA systems for alarms and responding accordingly
  • the optimisation of the process through physical plant and control setpoint adjustments
  • assisting with work management of contractors/EMI staff via issuing of allowance to work permits
  • assisting the Shift Engineer with the isolation of plant to release for works via the issuing of PTWs
  • the management of gas consumers.

What you'll need

Experience working within process operations in the water industry is desirable. However, we consider those who have experience in plant operation in other industries, especially if you have exposure to DSEAR and COMAH regulations and their application within operations.

It is essential that you have a self-motivated work ethic, hard-working nature and good communication skills. The ability to work under pressure is required due to the inherent nature of 24-hour wastewater treatment operations.

This is a shift-based role and therefore you will be required to work your shift pattern which includes nights, bank holidays and weekends.

Full training will be provided, including Confined Spaces training, CompEx training and IChemE accredited Process safety courses.

A valid manual UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you'll receive

  • Total pension contributions up to 20%.
  • Career progression along with professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
