As our new Software Development Team Leader, you will lead a team of developers to build, support, and maintain high‑quality IT solutions.

You will act as a subject matter expert in software design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment.

What you'll do 

In this varied role, you will: 

  • provide input to the Software Development Manager in terms of scope, estimation, design, cost, quality, risk, architectural design, and security to ensure IT systems deliver value to the business and meet the wider demands to ensure data integrity and security
  • mentor and develop the technical capabilities of reports to ensure that they meet the demand of business to maintain, support and develop the software and thus support its applications estate to agreed service levels
  • work with the Enterprise, Solution and Technical Architects to establish and maintain agreed standards, patterns and designs applicable to the work undertaken and to ensure that they are adhered to
  • use the significant experience and knowledge held to design, code, test, and document software for YTL, complying with agreed techniques and standards for version control of software for the company, to ensure high-quality software and levels of service
  • take a lead role in evaluating, reviewing, and providing expert advice in programming methods, tools and/or standards used in the organisation to ensure that the most appropriate solutions are developed and applied to deliver high-quality software and levels of service
  • take a lead role in planning, designing, and conducting tests on software, correcting defects and re-testing to achieve an error-free result in conjunction with the QA team
  • take a lead role in planning, designing, and conducting performance and usability tests on software to achieve systems that deliver acceptable performance and are easy to use
  • take a lead role in the review of technical specifications from suppliers and IT partners to ensure the expected quality is maintained by these resources
  • lead peer reviews for your team, including contractors and third parties as required to ensure high standards of software delivered to the business
  • plan and undertake, with other members of the wider Technology Systems and Development team, software upgrades under the standard Change Control process, ensuring the delivery of updated software is completed to agreed timescales with full agreement and communication with the business
  • ensure that all software development adheres to company security standards, and that there are no breaches to data security either internally or externally, to minimise the risk to the company.

What you'll need 

In this role, we are looking for: 

Experience with the Microsoft technology stack, such as:

  • C#, asp.net, SOA, VB6, VB.net, MAUI, Blazor, .NET
  • Azure Development stack, e.g. Logic Apps, Function Apps, App Insights, etc
  • Transact-SQL
  • RDBMS Microsoft SQL Server 2000 thru to 2022
  • Microsoft Integration Services, Microsoft IIS, Web Services
  • Biztalk 2016
  • Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHubFlow, GitVersioning
  • peer reviewing and pull requests
  • Visual Studio family
  • testing and security tools
  • operating in an ISO 270001 certified environment.

We are also looking for:

  • previous experience in line managing would be desirable
  • excellent team skills working in collaboration at a highly technical level with colleagues, IT partners, IT consultants, both on and off site
  • excellent communication skills to explain either verbally or in writing technical concepts, solutions, and ideas with people at all levels of IT knowledge and experience, with sufficient authority to advise Heads of Department when the need arises
  • the ability to work independently and with a high degree of autonomy to make decisions at the appropriate time, drawing on extensive experience and considering the needs of the situation, priorities, constraints, and the availability of necessary information
  • familiarity with testing techniques used to plan and execute software tests of all application components (functional and non-functional) to verify that the software satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors
  • proficiency in the specific standards, including accessibility standards, organisational network performance standards, service desk procedures, corporate data standards and quality, digital security, Agile development methodology and change management processes
  • excellent academic qualifications, such as a Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent (desireable).
