We have a great opportunity for a student to join our Water Quality team! Do you want to learn about the chemical, biological, physical and mechanical processes required for drinking water treatment? If so, this role is for you.

We welcome applications from across Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset - this role can be based anywhere across our region.

This role is strictly for students in years 2 and 3 of their university course, ideally from a scientific or other technical course, with the position beginning in Summer 2026 and running for 15 months.

What you'll do

Your main duties will include:

  • producing clear reports and engaging presentations, and effectively communicating technical information in a succinct way
  • improving our training documentation for every area of drinking water treatment, including presentations, producing booklets and being involved with online digital-based training
  • collating water treatment centre information and producing site-specific policies for internal departments and our external regulator, the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI)
  • assisting the Science team with day-to-day operations and various projects to ensure we utilise our assets in the most efficient way
  • optimising our drinking water treatment processes to produce the best water quality for our customers.

What you'll need

You will be studying towards a science, environmental, engineering or maths-based subject.

You don't need any prior knowledge of the water industry, water treatment or many of the technical skills necessary, as full training will be provided throughout the placement; however, a willingness to learn and engage in these is essential.

Ideally, you will also need:

  • experience in report writing and producing attention-grabbing presentations
  • to be well organised and able to manage and prioritise your own workload
  • to be comfortable working alone, both in the office and at our water treatment centres
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

Your time will include both on-site and home working. You'll need a valid driving licence and, ideally, your own vehicle, as getting yourself around our sites will be an essential part of the role.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.

  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
