We describe ourselves as a ‘community within a community' here at Wessex Water, and the role of a Tanker Driver is a key part of our customer journey.

What you'll do

We have around 400 water recycling centres (sewage treatment works) and more than 2,000 sewage pumping stations.

The water you use to clean your teeth, shower and bath, and flush the toilet becomes sewage – we treat 888 million litres of it every day. Our Tanker Drivers work across our region to ensure its safe and timely delivery to and from sites.

The job involves transporting sewage sludge to and from specified sites, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and keeping costs low by ensuring the product is collected from the correct place and on schedule.

You may also be involved in emergency driving in the event of breakdowns.

What you'll need

You will need to have a clean HGV Class 1 driving licence and be qualified in, or working towards, Drivers CPC.

Excellent knowledge of VOSA regulations is also essential to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. Health and safety and field practice awareness are also a priority.

Experience with vacuum/pressure tankers or similar equipment is advantageous. Lone working is part of this role, so you must be capable of working unsupervised.

You should also be computer literate and have a strong geographical knowledge of the area. Strong communication skills are also essential.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
