This is an exciting new role and reflects the ongoing development of YTL UK as the group continues to grow its UK businesses across Wessex Water, YTL Construction UK and the YTL Arena.

We are looking for a new Tax Assistant to work in our busy Tax department, working primarily for the Assistant and Deputy Tax Managers, where you will play a key role in the overall running of the Group's tax affairs.

The tax department has full responsibility for all taxes across the YTL UK Group. The role will primarily involve VAT, CIS and IR35 compliance, where the Tax team interact with many other departments across the business on a real-time basis.

You would be a key member of the tax team and would be expected to interact with the business and use technology to ensure the group meets its tax compliance obligations and identifies opportunities to minimise the tax burden.

What you'll do

You will work in the Tax department, which covers the entire YTL UK Group. It forms part of our Finance and Treasury directorate. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • ensuring accuracy and completeness of data flowing into the relevant underlying accounting systems
  • assisting with tax data extraction and validation for reporting purposes
  • optimising tax technology tools (e.g. tax compliance software) and analysing existing tax processes to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements
  • assisting with further automation improvements that can be made to the VAT preparation
  • assisting in educating the wider business in correct VAT coding & compliance at source
  • documenting and updating tax process notes
  • preparing and reviewing underlying data for the preparation and submission of monthly VAT and CIS returns to HMRC and ensuring necessary deductions are made
  • engaging with the business to ensure the obligations of the off-payroll legislation are met across the entire group
  • reviewing expense claims to ensure that VAT recovery is maximised and claims made are in line with company policy
  • assisting in the preparation of the corporation tax returns for all of the Group companies
  • using your Excel skills to analyse the details of the tax-sensitive P&L accounts and contribute to the fixed asset analysis, all of which are reconciled to the financial accounts
  • providing support to the tax team on any wider projects. This could include support on other HMRC requirements, such as the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) regime, efficiency improvements or other OFWAT related projects.

The nature of our work provides us with the opportunity to work with many other departments such as purchasing, payroll, engineering and construction, developer services, estates and legal on a real-time, advisory basis.

What you'll need

In this role, we are looking for:

  • AAT level 3 as a minimum.
  • strong business partnering skills
  • the ability to communicate with all levels
  • strong IT skills, particularly advanced in Excel, with a good understanding of how AI/Automation can be used across the department in a tax compliance environment
  • experience with data manipulation tools & ability to interpret & troubleshoot data issues
  • good working knowledge of Agresso (desirable).

Depending on experience, further training may be available.
