An exciting opportunity has become available for a Technical Standards Lead to join us at Wessex Water.
Working within the Asset Management team, you will be responsible for overseeing and developing Technical Standards within Wessex Water, covering clean water, wastewater, and Bioresources assets above and below ground.
Currently, these are focused primarily on the design of our assets, and we are looking to expand these to cover the entirety of the asset lifecycle.
What you'll do
In this role, you will:
- work with technical and subject matter experts across the organisation, as well as external consultants, to develop end‑to‑end documentation that meets the requirements of the IAM and ISO 55001:2024
- be responsible for the ownership of all technical standards within Wessex Water
- lead the relevant groups across water and wastewater to own, develop and enhance our technical standards for design, operation, maintenance and decommissioning, in line with statutory and best‑practice guidelines
- build an ethos of collaboration across the organisation, working with a wide range of teams and suppliers to drive continuous improvement in technical standards
- assess and evaluate current gaps in technical standards and develop improvement plans to address them
- engage with relevant consultants and suppliers in drafting technical standards where required
- chair and organise Technical Standards Group meetings across the organisation, ensuring actions are tracked and completed on time
- take ownership of the publication and ongoing upkeep of all technical standards, ensuring they remain current and accurate
- drive positive and lasting changes to how assets are designed, operated, maintained and decommissioned
- support the wider Asset Management team in progressing the organisation towards ISO 55001 certification and beyond
- ensure assets are designed to comply with statutory and regulatory requirements, while delivering value for money across the asset lifecycle and incorporating inherently safe, constructible and maintainable design principles
- benchmark and validate technical standards internally and externally with relevant subject matter experts
- develop strong relationships with national and water‑industry stakeholders, as well as colleagues across the organisation.
What you'll need
We are looking for someone who:
- has experience working in a technical environment and is familiar with writing and maintaining standards documentation
- has experience in the water industry or with utility assets, from either an engineering or asset management perspective
- can effectively manage and collaborate with both internal and external teams
- has strong influencing skills, particularly in driving positive cultural change
- is highly proficient in MS Office and ideally has experience using Microsoft Dynamics.
You will also be degree‑qualified in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from trained mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
