An exciting and newly created opportunity has become available for a Technical Performance Supervisor to help assist with maintaining and optimising the day-to-day operation of our water recycling centres in West Huntspill, Vale Road and Taunton, Somerset.

If you have experience in mechanical or electrical fault finding, have worked as a supervisor within a 24/7 operational environment and are looking for a new role where you can have an impact on how we operate, then we want to hear from you!

What you'll do

Our Western Water Recycling team supports the operation and maintenance of sewage and sludge treatment plants to meet quality standards in the west of our region.

As a Technical Performance Supervisor, you will assist the Site Manager with supervising, supporting, training and mentoring staff at all levels, as well as assisting Site Operators in their routine maintenance tasks, primarily at Taunton Ham. You will also provide assistance and cover for our West Huntspill water recycling centre and Vale Road sludge treatment centre, deputising for the Site Manager when necessary.

You will be responsible for the activities delivered by Operators to ensure you meet the relevant KPI and SLA targets. A key part of this role will be to ensure both the process and occupational safety of our people, as well as the operation of our assets and the treatment process. You will be expected to manage daily permitting requirements, make sound concise decisions, respond to operational emergencies and manage change effectively.

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • managing activities and implementing initiatives to encourage safe working practices, while also seeking continual improvement in task methods, including developing and implementing safe systems of works
  • supporting operational staff on site to maintain and improve process performance
  • actively optimising sludge quality and energy and chemical use
  • developing detailed knowledge of hazardous areas, safe working practices in these areas, associated procedures and subsequently issuing permits to work
  • liaising with and managing contractor activity on site, including reviewing RAMS
  • managing incidents on site whilst demonstrating effective decision-making, thereby ensuring a safe and efficient resolution
  • contributing to and implementing necessary change to meet business goals
  • assisting with operational maintenance activities on site on a daily basis
  • raising process risk assessments, EM&I jobs and prioritising appropriately.

What you'll need

We are looking for a team player who is able to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and levels of knowledge. You will need to be organised and proactive, have great problem-solving skills, and be comfortable working outdoors. Ideally, you will be working towards an NVQ level 3 STW (all wastewater units) or an equivalent electrical/mechanical qualification.

In addition, you will have:

  • excellent knowledge of the treatment process with a passion for delivering the highest performance and quality
  • experience operating and optimising treatment processes
  • mechanical or electrical experience in fault-finding and rectifying issues
  • experience in producing written reports and procedures to a high standard
  • good knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel and Word
  • a full clean UK driving licence.

An understanding of operational procedures is essential to ensure you will be able to make the correct decisions under pressure. A knowledge of IOSHH health and safety, DSEAR/ATEX and process safety is important, as is the ability to produce clear, comprehensive documents and procedures.

Finally, to be successful in this role, you will be competent in resolving technical problems in the operation and maintenance of assets with advanced fault-finding and solution skills. You must also be able to participate in a full standby rota.

What you'll receive

  • Total pension contributions up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
