The Assistant Operations Manager will assist in providing a surface and groundwater dewatering network in preparation for returning treated effluent to the environment. Adhering to the rigorous permit conditions set by external agencies and regulatory bodies to avoid severe financial penalties and detrimental impact to the Company's and client's name.
You will be responsible for stakeholder engagement and providing a focal point between clients, operational managers, and site teams.
You will assist in the coordination and operation of Hinkley Point C's expansive dewatering network, water management network & associated assets.
Aid the dewatering and engineering departments with the goals and ambitions and support any crossover tasks/projects to ensure we are delivering a first-class service.
Maintain a level of 100% environmental permit compliance, zero serious pollution incidents, within contractual budgetary controls and with adherence to set KPIs.
What you'll do
- Supporting the Operations Manager in the directing of the operational teams to optimise resources and align with business aims and comply with internal and external targets.
- Managing contractual budgets and processes to resource activities correctly to maintain position as an effective and efficient support function for NNB.
- Deputise for the Operations Managers when absent, managing the workforce, attending meetings and being the direct contact for client.
- Implement site wide Dewatering strategies using best industry practice to achieve high quality in all areas, minimise waste and become more sustainable and efficient.
- Assist the implementing of business plans, objectives and targets as set out in strategy to move the business forward by reviewing our operation, using new technology where appropriate and keeping team members trained and motivated.
- Oversee the management of contractors to ensure compliance with H&S, standards and good value without risk to quality.
- Maximising all controllable factors to meet external quality targets.
- Review and assist in the improvement of the team productivity to make the most of resources and being able to show value to the client.
- Supporting cultural and organisational change to ensure smooth running by communicating with workforce and explaining need for change.
- Managing interfaces with other tier 1 contractors, building relationships and getting fast resolution of any issues.
- Provide a comprehensive technical coordination function for works in relation to Hinkley Point C's water management infrastructure.
- Ensure timelines, deliverables and deadlines are correctly communicated to key stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve project issues, risks and conflicts.
- Attendance at area specific coordination meetings to ensure key information is disseminated to stakeholders.
- Promoting a culture of awareness to improve safety and reduce accidents / incidents protecting workforce from injury and company from prosecution.
- Assist in maximising team productivity and make the most of resources by coordinating and planning activities efficiently.
- Implement efficiencies and innovations in operations to provide cost savings to the client where applicable.
- Ensuring good liaison with all stakeholders, promoting a consistent approach, technical advice, and swift resolution of any identified problem
- Where required, assist in managing emergencies and local incidents to minimise cost and risk to the client.
What you'll need
- Relevant qualifications in the discipline (HNC, HND, BSc, ILM) or demonstrable experience within the sector.
- Commercial awareness.
- Operational and engineering experience.
- Professional approach / manner.
- 2+ years' experience in the water industry is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent IT skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Experience using AutoCAD is preferred but not essential for the role.
- The ability to manage multiple deliverables.
- Strong, interpersonal, people management, communication, team and motivational skills.
