Are you a positive individual with excellent organisational and attention to detail skills, along with an interest in environmental legislation/regulation? If so, we have a great opportunity for you as an Environmental Permitting Technician!
What you'll do
This role sits within the Permitting team, which is responsible for maintaining a register of around 1,700 water discharge permits.
The team liaises with the Environment Agency (EA) to ensure the necessary environmental permits are progressed to assist with the delivery of our environmental obligations.
As part of our commitment to ensure ongoing compliance, the Permit Compliance Assessment (PCA) will be a fundamental part of this new role.
The PCA focuses on existing permit conditions and involves the review, investigation and management of these permit conditions to ensure they are accurate and compliant.
You will:
- maintain and improve the EA records database and associated management systems for company use
- be expected to maintain knowledge of relevant environmental legislation
- provide advice on permit requirements across the business, as well as assist with other regulatory work as necessary
- adapt as the regulatory environment for wastewater management evolves
- visit a variety of operational sites, both wastewater and supply.
What you'll need
We are looking for you to have strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for liaising with internal departments and external regulators. You will need to be innovative and positive in your approach.
In addition, we are looking for:
- competency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- an A-level in a science subject (or equivalent)
- a good eye for detail and awareness of environmental compliance
- knowledge of wastewater networks and treatment processes (desirable)
- experience with GIS software packages and databases (beneficial but not essential)
- a full clean driving licence
- a great team player who is willing to work both independently and as part of a team.
