Do you enjoy working outdoors and have a passion for the environment? If so, we have an exciting position for an Environmental Sampler to join our Science team here at Hinkley Point C!

What you'll do

Joining our Science team, you'll engage with each other daily to catch up on what is happening in your areas and understand any challenges the team are facing, the samples you have collected on that day and raise any compliance issues. You will need to be self-sufficient within this role, but the team are there to provide support and guidance when needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • the collection of water quality samples from boreholes, wells, surface water ponds and streams across a large working construction site and satellite sites
  • collecting samples from a tap/hose, undertaking micro purging and reading piezometers
  • undertaking ad hoc water and soil sampling as and when required, and to manage the sampling equipment stock levels and maintain sampling equipment
  • preparing samples for the laboratory, liaising with couriers, delivering and documenting samples to produce traceability
  • reporting unusual samples on the HPC reporting tool and working closely with the Scientific Analysts to identify any anomalous laboratory results
  • undertaking health and safety point of work risk assessments for all sampling activities and undertaking a daily vehicle check
  • ensuring we comply with industry regulations and provide our clients with a high-quality service
  • monitoring the Science team inbox
  • registering samples on the laboratory's portal, completing the paperwork on the samples you take and collecting the sampling receipts, creating and managing a sampling diary and register
  • maintaining the team's spreadsheets and any administration work related to environmental sampling and liaising with the OSM Sampling team
  • working with the Drilling and Dewatering team to capture any well changes and update the sampling diary as required to ensure this is kept up to date
  • supporting the Science team with undertaking data downloads and preparing monthly reports and weekly water management meeting minutes for the Client.

What you'll need

To be successful, you'll need:

  • to be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a genuine interest in the environment
  • to enjoy working in a practical operational role and can work independently as well as part of a team
  • to be health and safety focused and happy to work outdoors in all weather
  • a team-focused and collaborative approach to supporting team colleagues, along with the ability to plan and use your organisational skills to prioritise your own workload
  • an agile working approach with a previously demonstrable ability for problem-solving
  • an A-level qualification within a Science field as a minimum (desirable)
  • to be computer literate with MS Outlook, Word and Excel
  • previous experience of working within an environmental role or construction sites, where you have had to communicate and build effective working relationships (beneficial).

You will be working across the Hinkley Point C site and will be required to regularly drop samples off at a local laboratory off-site, so you will need a full driving licence and be comfortable driving HPC site vehicles.
