Are you a self-motivated individual eager to join an award-winning organisation as part of our Water Technician team? If so, we have a great opportunity for you.

What you'll do

As a Meter Technician, you will be responsible for visiting both household and non-household properties to carry out surveys for meter installations and replacements.

Your day will be managed via an electronic diary, and you'll be liaising with customers, installing both smart and concentric meters, raising job cards, updating and closing out the jobs through the diary and activating smart meters on site using an app, so good basic IT skills are essential.

Each meter will be fitted to a high standard, with accuracy and care to provide the best possible customer experience and minimise the need for repeat visits. When closing work orders, all data must be entered correctly to provide detailed and reliable information.

Many of your daily tasks will involve working alone, so it's vital to follow lone worker procedures to maintain safe working practices at all times. However, you'll also have the support of the team and the Meter Technician Supervisor when needed.

As a safety-first employer, we expect full compliance with our health and safety policies, procedures and best practices. This includes ensuring all available safety measures have been exercised before starting any survey for each incident type.

The role will require you to be based in the Bath/Northern area of our region, but also be prepared to work regionally across our supply area when required. A company van is provided for your travel.

What you'll need

We are seeking a confident, self-motivated and outgoing individual who is a team player with good people skills.

In addition, you will have:

  • the ability and confidence to deliver great customer service
  • water supply metering experience covering household and non-household activities (not essential as training will be provided)
  • experience with working to tight deadlines with a focus on delivery targets
  • a ‘can do' approach to learning new work management tools and working on multiple systems
  • a well-organised and self-sufficient work ethic
  • the ability to work under pressure and resolve issues through good decision-making
  • computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel for data entry
  • a full and valid UK driving licence
  • a street works card (preferred but not essential)
  • a water smart passport/hygiene card (training will be provided)
  • manual handling experience (training can be provided).

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
