As we look to further develop our network performance in water supply, we have a great opportunity for a knowledgeable and dynamic Network Performance Manager in our Northern region to join our team, reporting directly to the Water Networks Director.

What you'll do

You will:

  • assume overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of our clean water network, booster stations and service reservoirs within a defined geographical area
  • be accountable for the risk management of network activities, responses to operational customer incidents, and maintaining high water quality standards and industry-leading customer service
  • lead and inspire a team to implement operational strategies to meet the strategic performance commitments which will maintain our position as one of the top-performing water companies
  • focus on the delivery and maintenance of an efficient 24/7 operating strategy while managing risks to process and public health, ensuring that the amount of time our customers are without water is minimised, and providing an operational supply response to meet regulatory standards
  • manage the health and safety of the team, fellow employees, customers and the public and deliver operational budgets to targets whilst maintaining standards of service and quality
  • maximise productivity and reduce the prime cost of the Water Network business area
  • manage and direct relationships with all internal clients/directorates to deliver company KPIs, ensure customers receive appropriate standards of service, and that capital investment is identified and directed appropriately to manage our risk and ensure that business plan objectives are met
  • manage resources when required, devising and implementing cultural changes within the business, and developing personnel development and staff succession plans
  • deliver performance outcomes within a heavily constrained financial framework
  • lead the cultural and technological change necessary to deliver industry aspirations to achieve ‘zero supply interruptions' and ‘zero leakage' by 2050
  • work to increase DWI confidence in the operation and maintenance of our assets
  • assist with the development and implementation of robust processes to prioritise capital investment aimed at supply network infrastructure - principally water mains replacement, booster stations and service reservoirs
  • balance the ever-increasing standards of customer satisfaction and water quality, against the demand for reducing leakage, reducing budgets and increasing commercial competition
  • foster a tight and genuinely collaborative working relationship with multiple stakeholders across the business.

What you'll need

You will ideally be degree qualified or equivalent, with 5+ years' experience in water industry management, and/or with a strong science related background. You will also need to be able to demonstrate leadership experience at a managerial level.

In addition, you will need:

  • the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively
  • significant negotiating and influencing skills

  • relevant project management experience
  • strong and proven knowledge of the details behind water supply networks from source to tap, including pipeline hydraulics, service reservoirs, leakage operations, R&M and pressure control
  • strong and proven track record of managing water supply operational emergencies both tactical and operational
  • extensive knowledge of water treatment sites and processes, water science and quality and resource strategy including grid operations
  • to foster a culture of innovation and autonomous operation
  • to have a clear understanding of regulatory framework and targets
  • advanced knowledge of relevant health and safety management procedures and the ability to instil a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture.
