We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Construction Manager (with a project management background) to join YTL Construction UK, to work on one of the largest and most exciting private regeneration projects in the UK with multiple projects being coordinated simultaneously. 

We are currently transforming the historic former Filton Airfield – the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel – into a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol, known as Brabazon.  

The purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project at Brabazon is arguably the largest of its kind in the region. 

What you'll do 

The Senior Construction Manager will be required to manage the fit-out team of six people to deliver 750 student bedrooms across two PBSA blocks.

You will be responsible for leading the fit-out team on site, during the construction phase, to ensure the successful delivery of the project in line with stakeholder expectations.

In addition to your core focus, you will be required to:

  • develop, implement and monitor working programmes that meet the long-term objectives set
  • achieve construction targets and the successful completion of projects on time, within budget, and of the highest quality
  • manage risks to avoid project delays, reputational damage and contractual disputes
  • assess resources and forecast requirements to suit the project objectives
  • produce progress and management reports
  • manage suppliers and the supply chain with regular communication, meetings and workshops to facilitate good working relationships
  • set appropriate build stage milestones
  • contribute to design development in accordance with the overall delivery programme and agreed project milestones, while assisting with the timely sequencing, methodology and the production of all necessary plans
  • lead the health and safety culture of the site, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • input into technical design to ensure buildability is a key consideration
  • input into the technical and capability aspects of procurement and production of the scope of work for packages
  • manage suppliers and the supply chain with regular communication, meetings and workshops to facilitate good working relationships
  • work with the Technical/Design Manager, resolve design and construction issues in a timely manner to minimise construction disruptions
  • manage risks to avoid project delays, reputational damage and contractual disputes
  • produce progress and management reports as required
  • manage, monitor and record the line of balance programme throughout the project lifecycle.

What you'll need 

The successful individual will have previous experience as a Senior Construction Manager or Project Manager and will have a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering major projects with a Tier 1 main contractor or sub-contractor, ideally on PBSA.

You will have either an HNC, HND, or degree in a construction or engineering subject and hold membership with a relevant industry body such as CIOB, APM, CIAT or RICS. 

As a construction and project management professional, you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • leading construction projects on large-scale purpose-built student accommodation, or a similar project with multiple bedrooms
  • direct management of employees and the ability to lead a team
  • the ability to develop, manage, and maintain successful relationships, both internally and externally
  • use and understanding of document management systems, such as Viewpoint
  • implementing project controls and planning tools aimed at managing the deliverables
  • working knowledge of typical construction contracts and professional appointments
  • self-manage time and priorities, and receive high-level delegation of tasks and responsibilities
  • communicate in a range of styles to suit different purposes, such as presentations, reports and meetings
  • demonstrate leadership through action and behaviours
  • enthusiastic team player, who can listen, understand, motivate, and show confidence to make decisions when required
  • maintain personal and professional development regarding legislation, technology and industry best practice.
