Senior Quantity Surveyor

We're currently transforming the historic former Filton Airfield – the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel – into a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol and the South West, known as Brabazon.  

We're seeking an experienced commercial professional to lead and support the site-based Commercial team on a major construction project at the site in Filton. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accurate and timely commercial control of the project, particularly for the on-site Waitrose, office, and car park for our exciting development.   

What you'll do 

We're seeking a strategic and hands-on professional to manage the entire commercial lifecycle, from pre-construction planning to final account delivery. 

You'll be:

• preparing detailed subcontract tender packages and scopes of work
• engaging with top-tier supply chain partners
• leading tender analysis and reporting to guide smart procurement decisions
• building robust project risk registers and unlocking value engineering opportunities, while collaborating closely with planners and project managers to monitor design and procurement progress
• providing monthly cost updates and commercial insights to keep stakeholders informed and confident.

During the construction phase, you'll ensure site teams are fully briefed on subcontract terms and manage the commercial impact of changes. You'll provide expert contractual guidance, resolve claims, and uphold commercial processes with precision. Strong relationships with delivery teams and supply chain partners will be essential, as you oversee subcontractor accounts, valuations, and final account forecasting. You'll lead cost value reconciliations and produce monthly commercial reports that drive performance. 

Beyond project delivery, you'll mentor and support Quantity Surveyors and Assistants, champion a safety-first culture, and contribute to continuous improvement across the department. Your expertise will play a key role in risk mitigation and contract cost analysis, helping shape the future of commercial management within our business.

What you'll need 

We are looking for candidates with solid construction experience with framed structure knowledge, preferably working on a larger project in either a support role or project lead.  

If you are an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step up, or a time served Senior Quantity Surveyor who is happy to take a sideways move, we want to hear from you!  

The ideal candidate will have: 

• a BSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
• long-term experience in contract/commercial management
• proven success on major projects (£15m+) with a Tier 1 contractor
• strong knowledge of construction contracts and techniques
• familiarity with Bristol/Southwest supply chain 
• experience managing commercial teams and supervising staff
• excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
• ability to draft project correspondence and commercial reports
• knowledge of dispute resolution and contractual claims.
