Are you looking for a role where you can progress your career and improve the environment? If so, we have an amazing opportunity for a Senior Wastewater Data Scientist to join our Wastewater Strategy team!
What you'll do
This is a fantastic opportunity to join Wessex Water at a time of unprecedented change, with the potential for you to make a huge difference within your role.
Our investment plan proposes a doubling of investment over the next five years, and a large proportion of this is in wastewater.
As a Senior Wastewater Data Scientist, you will be pivotal in shaping the scale of our investment in the future, including the evidence that will be used as part of our wastewater and environmental programmes in AMP9.
Consequently, you will have a huge variety of responsibilities and the ability to significantly influence all levels of the business plan and in turn the future of the water industry.
You'll need to be able to switch between the big picture and details quickly. This will include working with your colleagues to ensure we have the data we need to evidence our long-term strategies, such as our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP), Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and Long-Term Delivery Strategy (LTDS).
Depending on your experience, this may include developing tools in Python or R to support decision-making. It would also be beneficial if you were able to help upskill the team to improve the ways we work.
What you'll need
Within the team, you will be working alongside a variety of technically skilled people and liaising more broadly within and outside of the business.
You'll need to be technically skilled but also question usual processes to ensure we're using the best data available to provide customers with the assurance that we are providing the best solutions for the environment.
This role will suit someone who has a solid understanding of IT systems/software and can explain the importance of high-quality data within this context.
We are looking for:
- degree qualified or equivalent, possibly with chartered engineer or equivalent status
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- personal skills that enable effective working with people at all levels
- experience in asset management and the role of data science in its application
- programming experience, such as in R, Python, and/or Matlab.
- the ability to develop, follow, and maintain procedures that ensure the accurate maintenance of technical workflows.
While it would be beneficial, we don't expect you to be an expert in wastewater or the regulatory frameworks that are specific to the water sector!
We're looking for a data scientist who is enthusiastic and wants to help make a real difference to the way we plan to improve the environment.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from trained mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
