What you'll do
Join our team at Avonmouth Water Recycling Centre (WRC), the largest wastewater and bio-digestion facility in the Wessex Water network and the only site regulated under COMAH.
As a Shift Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operation and optimisation of both sewage and sludge treatment processes. Your focus will be on maintaining high standards of quality and compliance while ensuring the safety of everyone on site.
This role supports the Shift Engineer by identifying and addressing process issues, coordinating and managing the work of Wessex Water staff and contractors across the plant, and playing a key role in both the safe operation of the plant and emergency response to incidents.
Other responsibilities include:
- physical work, including pump replacements, confined space entries, complex isolations and maintenance of equipment
- monitoring control room SCADA systems for alarms and responding accordingly, together with optimising the process through physical plant and setpoint adjustments
- collaborating with the Shift Engineers and Permit Officer to safely isolate equipment and manage the work of internal and external staff via our allowance and permit to work systems
- working within a close-knit team, outdoors in all weather conditions, dealing with different challenges every day.
What you'll need
- Level 3 qualifications in Process/Mechanical/Electrical Operations or Engineering.
- Experience working within water industry operations is desirable. However, we welcome those who possess experience in plant operation in other industries, especially if you have exposure to DSEAR and COMAH regulations within operations.
- It is essential that you be self-motivated, hard-working and have good communication skills.
- A valid manual UK driving licence.
This is a relief role, typical work patterns will be Monday-Friday, but you will be required to coordinate with the other relief Technician to ensure all shifts are covered, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. You may be required to provide emergency cover.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
