Do you have experience supervising and managing operational staff? Do you have substantial experience in wastewater treatment? If so, we have a great opportunity for you as the Bioresources Shift Supervisor.
This role will assist Avonmouth's Bioresources Operations Manager with the safe operation of our largest and most complex wastewater treatment and sludge processing site, ensuring regulatory standards are met and delivering corporate targets, including gas production and utilisation.
What you'll do
The Avonmouth Operations team consists of multiple shift teams, which you will be an integral part of leading and supporting.
You will need to coordinate with these teams and other departments based on the site to maximise outputs and yields, while ensuring our commitments to regulators, in both safety and environmental aspects, are continuously adhered to.
This includes:
- supporting the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operation of the site
- monitoring the operation of assets in an efficient and robust manner
- maximising sewage treatment and sludge quality.
This role has 16 direct reports, including five Shift Engineers, six Shift Technicians, four Plant Operators and one Permit Officer, who you will need to direct to efficiently manage onsite work using our control of work systems, in addition to monitoring and responding to site conditions, alarms and emergencies.
You'll also input on the prioritisation of capital maintenance to allow treatment strategies using best industry practices, minimising operational costs and interfacing with regulatory bodies and the public.
What you'll need
- A significant level of wastewater and sludge processing operational experience to HNC level or equivalent.
- Preferably, an ONC/degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or higher level environmental qualifications.
- An understanding of health and safety expectations and the implementation of safe systems of work, including Permits to Work and Process Risk Assessments.
- The ability to think critically and problem solve is essential to optimise the treatment processes and improve procedures.
- Computer literacy to understand the company and SCADA systems is vital.
- An understanding of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and high voltage systems would be beneficial.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
