Are you an experienced Construction Manager looking for a new challenge? If so, we are looking for a Construction Manager in the West of our region who will manage our Repair and Maintenance Waste activities.

You will support a team of supervisors to ensure their repair teams operate to maximum performance, while following company CDM, health and safety policies, internal operating procedures and company targets.

What you'll do

The Construction Manager for Sewer Renovations will manage a team that provides a 24/7 service to the operations business to repair and maintain all below-ground assets when they malfunction.

You will ensure safety policies are adhered to, protecting the company, employees and the general public. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • ensuring work is completed within an acceptable timeframe and to a high standard
  • reducing the need for remedial work and complaints from customers
  • Driving time management from the team, ensuring that performance is maximised
  • controlling costs with budget management to ensure we meet our budget targets
  • assisting the Scheduling Manager in achieving the team goals
  • working with other departments to make sure the right equipment is available for the R&M team to work efficiently
  • working with external bodies via procurement to ensure new equipment and methods on the market are exploited to maximise performance
  • liaising with external contractors and ensuring quality of contract staff at the best price
  • ensuring that the team is properly advised and equipped to make effective repairs to assets
  • supporting the Sewer Renovation Manager and managing CDM.

What you'll need 

The Construction Manager should be self-motivated and driven to inspire the team to maximum performance.

You will need to have strong knowledge of repair and maintenance, including problem-solving in the field, and five years of experience in R&M activities, and three years in a supervisor/managerial role.

You will also:

  • have excellent working knowledge of health and safety, including IOSH or NEBOSH and 5 Day SMSTS
  • prepare construction phase health and safety plans and submit them to the CDM coordinator to ensure legislation is complied with
  • ensure compliance with requirements identified in the Construction E3MP to ensure the team carry out activities legally and with due care to the environment
  • be able to identify and resolve health and safety issues and implement changes and improvements where necessary
  • ensure all site staff and appointed contractors have a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities, especially CDM, health and safety and environmental requirements  
  • have experience in large diameter main repairs and deep dig excavations (including trench support)
  • have a good understanding of profit and loss, plus budget control
  • have some commercial awareness
  • have landscaping/SUDS/Surface water drainage (beneficial).
